I am not a woman so may never understand what motivates them to spend so much time on their hair. I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with attracting men because men mostly don’t notice. In my case, my wife once asked me how I liked a woman’s hair. When I told her, she said, “No, I don’t like my hair that way.” That was the end of that.
For what it’s worth, I think the same may apply to makeup. I have never seen a woman’s appearance improved by makeup (and I grew up in a household full of them), but they keep caking the stuff on, often to the point of distorting their features (unintentionally). I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with men (and I admit, I used to think it was connected with attracting a mate) — because men will seek out women no matter how they as a group adorn themselves (or not). Hairy armpits never stopped most of the world. Lack of makeup, different hair or none — most men of a certain age range will be attracted to women because … women! So back to my original thought — I don’t know what motivates all this preening, and I don’t have to. As long as they don’t ask me for my opinion!
Five minutes after my shower, I can be dressed and ready to go. Five minutes after my bride showers, she is still running about in her skivvies, which, for me, isn’t altogether a bad thing.

Earl doesn’t need 5 hours. There’s not much hair to deal with.
sirbadger about 2 months ago
Why would Opal spend hours on her hair? She’s not a professional actress or fashion model.

Another thing that’s not fair: The face they see when they look in the mirror at themselves is not the same.

I don’t know…her hair looks a lot like a mop head to me. Not like something she spends hours on.

Remember they are based on Crane’s 1960 grandparents. If they are working / lower middle class l she likely gave herself an at home Toni perm.

Ever since I started growing out my beard, so that I could become a professional Santa, my wife complains that I have more hair product than she does.

He’s only got two (hairs). Earls primp procedure is therefore a minor procedure.

If I look in the mirror after getting out of the shower and think “I need to comb my hair”, I go get it cut first break I have.

Earl probably spends more time with the hair on his upper lip than the hair on top of his head.

Well, she spends hours trying to force her hair into being what it once was but never can be again. He spends a few moments accepting reality.

My hair gets brushed to get tangles out, twisted up into a bun and I am off to work. Maybe two minutes?
