/// Many workmen are Making Repairs

at the Shipyard, but nobody dares

    ask the Captain just how,

‘neath the waves some craft’s prow

pierced his ship while he sailed unawares.

/// They were two leagues from port, all was fine.

    Then disaster, below water line.

    A huge metal point speared

through the hull and they feared

they’d be sunk by the in-flooding brine.

/// Quickly ordering all pumps be manned,

from the deck, the horizon he scanned.

    To the surface, afloat,

    rose an undersea boat.

    ‘Twas the Nautilus, Nemo’s command.

All right mateys. You’ve all had your look at the Tahiti native ladies. Now carefully make your way back to starboard

Cute, but they are actually careening the ship at low tide to clean the barnacles from the bottom.

    Barnacles make a ship slow,

When they encumber from down below,

    So induce a list,

    Take a scraper in fist,

And apply force with your elbow.

    I’m trying to remember….

There was a ship that was pulled into a port and repaired and refitted with new rigging, lines, more powerful guns, new masts and sails.

On the day of the ship’s first sail after the refit, a battle started just outside of the harbor. Due to the importance of the ship, the King and his Naval Advisors were on shore, watching as she left port at battle stations, majestically clearing the harbor, and promptly sinking.

I keep thinking the name of the ship was the Mary Rose, but I can’t be sure.

Making repairs in the shipyard or Figures at work in a harbour

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Henri Adolphe Schaep" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Brave search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found, and once there find the text string maken, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

Again, a larger strip image is also shown by merely clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #2700 (May 5, 2021) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment. I have added a comment there pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, only work by him used here (2 times total, including this repeat), the May 5, 2021, strip being its first use.

Recently, a Iranian war vessel capsized in it’s dock because some nimrod did not ballast the ship properly when the fuel was removed for repairs. It’s not the kind of thing that strikes fear in the heart of your enemies.

Some of the many comments from 5/5/2021 (1 of 2):

BE THIS GUY: The captain was really ticked off when the repair crew told him his ship’s extended warranty had expired.

    +

rmremail: It was that sort of neighborhood – all the guys had old beat up boats up on cinder blocks in the front yard that they were overhauling in the hopes of selling.

Khatkhattu: Y’awl come on down, it gets 20 leagues to the galleon. It does have a couple of little dinghies from when the wife drove it. Ketch it while you can, ‘cause at this price it’s going to go fast.

P51Strega: Sorry, you’re barking up the wrong tree. I’d schooner stay ashore than go to your sail.Ah… just frigate about it!

    +

Kind&Kinder: “Get me someone who can actually captain a ship, the schooner the better!”

Strob: “Last thing I heard, the Captain announces ‘sunbathers off the port bow!’”

Papared25: “Cap’n, I just got off the horn with some cat named Stevens, and he said some longer boats are coming to get us. Oh, and some writer called Lightfoot wanted to know the name of the ship, so I gave him my father-in-law’s name, Edmund Fitzgerald.”

Papared25: When the tide goes out, ship happens.

Ubintold: This is probably one of those ships that lower to let the handicapped get off.

Call me Ishmael: He regrettably paid quite a lot / for what he’d been told was a yacht /and the seller had flown / to places unknown / leaving him and his “yacht “ to rot.

Blaidd Drwg: Note to self: “On next voyage, Cannonballs should be stored in boxes and not left to roll around freely.”

PO’ DAWG: The parallel parking assist needs a slight adjustment.

Holden Awn: Unexpected complications forced cancellation of the Plus-Model Show’s dinner cruise event.

Some of the many comments from 5/5/2021 (2 of 2):

Dove-Bear: It’s for moments like these that tug boats were invented.

Ken Holman: Don’t worry, cap’n, it’ll buff out.

SteveR405: On this episode of “This Old Ship”, Bob Villa boasts that the ship is in amazing condition for its age; while, Norm Abrams decides to demolish the hull down to the keel.

Call me Ishmael: I have consumed less than 3 oz. of alcohol in my entire life … believe it or not. Seriously.

anomaly: The captain’s legs were of unequal length, so he didn’t notice when they ran aground.

Running Buffalo: I TOLD you we needed more speed to jump the piers!

    She’s a deucedly decent sort/

But she much prefers staying in port.

    There’s no reason that we/

Need to take her to sea:/

We’ve decided the voyage to abort.
