I sleep on a platform bed, so if there are any monsters under it, they’ll need to saw a hole before they can get out. (It originally was a waterbed, but it’s had conventional mattresses for at least the last 30 years. Its bookcase headboard is much too nice and functional for me to even consider parting with it.)
While Kate is afraid of monsters in the forest. Here we have a more classical situation: a 4 year and a 6 year old afraid of monsters under their beds, and dad knew how to handle the situation in a smart way: by using a little humor and settling things to a child’s level by “searching” for the monster and showing a funny face (to calm the kids down): great going Shawn!

Dad jokes to cheer them up. And of course there are no monsters under the bed. THey’re all on holiday. On the island…

When my sister had measles, Dad painted red dots on her doll’s face to match hers. I believe this was in 1949. It’s a fun memory.
