They were trick questions!

School starts where I live, Wednesday the 21.

At your grade level, the answer won’t be 2 billion, so while there might be billions of wrong answers, why did you choose that one?

Clearly the odds are not in your favor. Nor yet the evens. And the less said about the irrational numbers the better.

I wish I’d have thought of that back in elementary school.

This is only a good excuse if you are guessing.

Sample Question from the test:

If a chicken and a half lays an egg in a day and a half, how long will it take a monkey with a wooden leg to kick all of the seeds out of a dill pickle?

Kinda disappointed that Wanda seems to be passing judgment on Hammie instead of trying to understand why her obviously brilliant son failed a quiz. Failing a quiz may indicate laziness OR not understanding grade-level material.

Pay him only half his allowance and see if he notices the difference

That excuse could cover every subject and every situation throughout his lifetime.

I suspect Hammie just put down any answer that popped into his head, hoping to get it correct.

The only reason I failed so badly in math is because I couldn’t show the work, how I got my answers. I didn’t know how to explain at that age that my brain works differently. I learned in my latter years that there are others like me, I feel validated. My teachers didn’t teach me the multiplication table or give me one to memorize so I worked it out in my own way, eg. 7×5; (5×5=25 + 2×5) -10=35, which is also why I couldn’t understand algebra. Sitting at my desk with tears rolling down my cheeks didn’t get any help either and before you chastise me for not asking for help, I was terrified of everyone, for a good reason.

Hammie, it’s an elementary math test, not the SAT.

Darn statistics they get in the way every time.

I still remember doing worksheets with apples to add. Pretty clever argument, does have a valid point.
