I’m in the same age group of Arlo and Janis and I had that conversation with my wife repeatedly. Even though my ego cant be crushed and she knows it. If anything my ego is made from silicone rubber.
I was the oldest of six and my wife was one of two girls with her grandmother living with them. Everything was done for her except to teach her where the kitchen was and its purpose.
Fortunately she is a quick learner…when she wants to be.
My wife and I are both good plain cooks. I cook four days a week when she’s working and she covers the weekends. I gave her a Pro-5 stand mixer last Spring and she’s really getting into baking. She found the Logan Inn roll recipe my mother used and they are just as good as I remember. I “borrow” it to make banana bread.

Flip the scenario. Arlo defers to Janis to avoid a fight. Being right is gratifying but in an argument with a woman, it would be a Pyrric victory.

Does Arlo use that tongue for other things that make Janis happy?

Oops! We never say it that way nor do we ever say it out loud, Janis. Totally defeats the purpose.

Arlo, you should know by now, that is what women say (and do) when we want someone to blame when our schemes and efforts fail.

Mansplaining 101. But in a working relationship, both sides do this, not just the woman.

When my wife says I am a good cook I wonder what is on her mind. She is a good cook; I am an adequate one.

Janis is starting to sound like Opal. Back off Jimmy, please.

I asked my partner that same question, she was honest and said- “Now I don’t have to do it”

Be careful Arlo. She has eyes in the back of her head. My husband would have cared less.

Actually, it can go either way. It’s all depending on the sensitivity of the cook.
