In Japan, it’s actually considered rude to tip. If you left money on the table as a tip, you could find the waiter running after you to return it. When my wife went to a Japanese restaurant in the UK though with her Japanese friend, she left a tip, Her friend told her “No, don’t do that, they’ll be insulted” and gave it back to her and apologised to the waitress saying, “sorry, she didn’t know”. My wife said, from the expression of the face on the waitress, she would have been ok with it. I think UK Japanese is different.
Why wouldn’t they tip him? He’s put their kids through college, enabled them to buy luxury cars, and so on . . . I’m sure his doughnut consumption drives the local (or maybe the world) economy.

How good are the local donut shops? Duncan Donuts left Oregon in 2008 and there are only two Krispy Kremes, both in Portland.

Instead of a cash tip they should just give him an extra donut.
