Who defines art? What is art if it does not connect with others? Why does art have to defined by the experts? Who decided artists have a duty to critique or record their society?
Art is for the artist to create and the viewer to interpret – critics are just failed artists.
Funny thing about “movie props”. I happen to be a volunteer guide at the cemetery where Rocky’s wife, Adrian, is “buried”. (Don’t worry. Actress Talia Shire is alive and well). The story goes that during the filming of “Rocky Balboa”, the props unit created a headstone for Adrian out of styrofoam. To put it mildly, Stallone didn’t like it. He swore that Adrian would get a proper stone even if he had to pay for it himself. He did. After the filing, the cemetery found that it had an interesting movie prop on its hands. Rather that disposing of it, management promoted it, even moving the stone to a more visitor-friendly location.I can honestly say that although “my” cemetery has many notable historic residents, Adrian’s empty grave is one of its main attractions. I love telling its backstory, and visitors seem to enjoy hearing it. It literally attracts people from around the world. Not bad for a movie prop.
This reminds me of the old “Car 54” sitcom, about two New York City cops. Even before “the Odd Couple”, Gunther was an “Oscar Madison” type while Francis was an intellectual.
If only Joe had access to the “Art Detector” machine. One merely has to point the machine at an object, and it will unerringly disclose whether that object is art or not. Then again, the result might favor Peterson. Only the Art Detector knows for sure.
elitist, any creation is art, that statue of Rocky, the Thinker, a crayon drawing done by a 4 year old, ALL of that is art, whether it’s made for some “higher” purpose or just being something people would want to look at, it is all still art.
Gonna Fly Now. IIRC, 2 different versions hit the charts that year. Fortunately, they weren’t as divergent as ’77’s London Symphony Orchestra vs Meco Menardo releases of Star Wars (Main Theme)

Anybody recognize what Joe is singing? Oh, wait. It’s probably the theme from “Rocky”, but since I can’t remember it at the moment, I can’t be sure.

“Eye of the Tiger” had to be written because Queen wouldn’t let them use “Another One Bites the Dust”..

It’s art. After all it’s in a prominent spot right outside the Art Museum.

I understand why Joe misses his ol’ partner.

It looks like Art to me. It doesn’t matter who made it.

Everyone ought to know that what I like is art, and what I don’t like is schlock.

Joe might be singing the Rocky theme, but I can’t tell because this is a comic strip.
