And he led a revolution, attacked the government, lost his temper sometimes, recognized God’s provenance, and owned a business. Not someone who’d get much sympathy from today’s elites.

That cheery tree rumor is fake news. Seriously, that story appeared in a posthumous biography of Washington. Parson Weems made the story up to embellish his book.
Apolitical? He favored the policies of the Hamilton’s Federalist party, though not a member himself. His farewell address’ reference to parties was a thinly-veiled attack on Jefferson’s Republicans.
The country wasn’t unified when Washington led the War for Independence. In fact, He, along with our Founders, were in the minority quest for independence. conservatives opposed our independence. After winning our independence Washington, and our Founders, enacted our constitution which promotes individual beliefs and viewpoints, not unity. conservatives march in lockstep. Our Founders were Liberals who founded this Great Nation on Liberal principles, Liberal ideals and Liberal values. It is what made us Great.
George would be absolutely on board with today’s right wing politicians who want a “bloody” mass deportation scheme. Probably best to leave him buried in the past….
He freed his slaves in his will, but as he is still alive in this and was brought forward in time, they are still his in the past, some would oppose him for that much. But they are long dead now, so maybe it would not be an issue.
