Poor Brutus is out of luck twice with this. Not only did he have to pay for the tanning session, he’ll now get to listen to Gladys fuss about it.

The SPF 50 kind of made it a waste of money, didn’t it? On brand for Gladys. Great side eye by Brutus!

I hope you all forgive me for this Sunday downer but this strip inspires me to encourage everyone to use sunscreen generously whenever you’re exposed to sun. One of my closest friends for 50+ years has been told he has 3 months to live. The “small” melanomas he got decades ago have metastasized all over his body. I’m not saying this wouldn’t have happened anyway but it was certainly the trigger. Sun screen is an excellent, easy and cheap protective measure.

I’m a redhead/blonde, I went to a tanning salon for a tear and I couldn’t see any tan at all. That must be Gladys problem.

Apparently but maybe that works to your benefit in the long run. Milky white skin on beautiful women IS very attractive. Healthy tans are really an oxymoron…..,

My dermatologist finds two or three things to freeze, cauterize or cut off every time I go there (every three to four months).

One trip to UAB for a melanoma in the nose, but thankfully that’s (so far) the only thing that required actual surgery.

I would get quite tan working on a farm in the summer, but I never got into the ‘tanning for a tan’ mode.

Sunscreen is good – better late than never. But most of the things us older folks get removed is from exposure many years ago…

SO – if you’ve got kids – protect them.

For an additional fee, a sunscreen artist will apply it so your ‘tan’ has the paler outline of your choice of bathing suit. Any back story to convince your friends is extra. Left forearm bronzing for truckers a specialty.

Tanning beds are terrible! Everyone is aware of the damage of the sun’s ultraviolet rays and we use sunscreen, but people pay to lie on them. Crazy. I use a self tanner foam and it looks natural with the UV damage. I use sunscreen every single day- even a mineral one for blue light from the computer.

I eventually accepted that I am a very light-skinned redhead and will never tan. For one of my skin cancers it took 7 medical professionals and three years to convince one of them to finally biopsy a spot on my arm. It did not look like skin cancer, but as I told them all, “The area bleeds on occasion, and never really heals.” Finally, one doctor looked at me, and asked me what I thought it was. I said I thought it was cancer. So, he biopsied it. It was skin cancer. He told me to never, ever let doctors keep telling me it’s nothing if I am even suspicious. I went back to him three years later, since it came back in the same place. Now I have a pretty good scar, but the area has not produced any more cancer. Yet. I keep an eye on it. Years ago, I thought I had sunscreen on that arm, and I was on vacation in Mexico. It burned pretty badly, and I still don’t know how I missed just one arm. Right now, I have two mosquito bites on the inside of my forearm. That seems an unlikely place for skin cancer, and both spots itched for a few days, but I am keeping a close eye on them. They have one week to go away on their own.

I have my dermatologist on an every 6 month schedule. Working construction in college, golf, soccer refereeing, it’s not good folks but I would rather have a small one frozen or removed than what the alternative is.
