I sure wish I had that “Woman’s prerogative to change her mind” at a blackjack table when visiting Vegas! Of course, changing gender to take advantage of such a prerogative does complicate things….

“Women’s prerogative”, “women’s intuition”. Bah! I’ll switch genders just to have men’s sharp wits and better muscle tone!

Very seldom have I ever heard of a woman liking it when a man changes his mind.

I wonder if this “move” will turn out like the sailboat Gus gave/sold them and it vanished into thin air.

I’m happy that Janis changed her mind only because of some strange reason I’d like to see this place that Gus picked out.

I wonder if I took a break from this strip and came back in 5 years would this story arc be done, or would I be able to pick the plot right back up? Much like a soap I used to watch, lol.

You MUST move. Let your house and all its memories inspire another generation. Think of the fun it will have with new kids.

When she thinks about something new, it’s exciting. When she thinks about leaving, it’s daunting and sad. Unfortunately, you can’t live somewhere new without leaving where you already live unless you are rich enough to afford a second home.

I think when this moving thing started I had a preference. Now I don’t care, I just want it over.

You know,the thing that hits me about this is how true the step-wise back-and-forth process is, to making a really huge decision without external pressure that forces your hand. I mean, if you have a job transfer or you discover you’re pregnant or your elderly parent has to be moved to hospice, you have no choice but to change your life around on the spot. Deciding to get married, to start a family, to end a marriage, to move for reasons of personal choice . . . those are decisions I always see people go back and forth on until they are heartily sick of thinking about it. But then they do finally take action, one way or another. When I’ve been in that situation myself, it almost feels like practicing — like going up on the high dive as a little kid but then being afraid to jump off even though you really want to do it. But if you keep trying, even if you back out several times in a row (going back down the ladder, and yes I did that), there’s a time when you take that plunge and jump. Maybe we just need to work up to it sometimes, I don’t know. But this arc sure makes me think of those times.

The wife and I did this – left our beloved house. For one thing, it got to be too much work. I felt bad for awhile, but no longer. Last week the drier was overheating. Called the office and someone came and climbed on the roof to clean out the vent. Rent is cheaper than a broken hip. And we’re just a mile from the grandkids. Change is hard but change is good. Last year I couldn’t walk around the MN State Fair for the first time ever due to spinal stenosis. This year my grown kids took me in a wheel chair and we had a great time. Be close to your kids. And young people, don’t be afraid to have kids. When you’re old that may be all you have in life that’s good (it certainly won’t be your health). And when you have kids show them how to take care of you by taking care of your parents. My mom moved to MN after my dad died with my disabled sister. I made sure they never needed or paid for anything, even though we weren’t exactly rich ourselves. I’d drag my son with me when we needed to plow out mom’s driveway and walk. Now, my kids take care of us. My brother, OTOH, left most of the caretaking to me. And one of his kids whined when my brother asked him to mow the lawn at his cabin. Even though he’s quite well off, he didn’t even offer to pay a handyman to mow. My brother’s in his late seventies.

Judging solely by the coyness of the dialogue, my virtual money is on the call not being about moving or real estate. My virtual nose (which works better than my real one) says it is something like an invitation to sail on the sloop John B, so to speak.

I read it a bit too quickly, and I actually think it’s funnier this way:

I thought the drive to see the kids took weeks of planning and finding a house/cat sitter? Now they are just going to drop everything to drive up the next day?
