What if you live upstream on the Rhine river? Does that mean you’ll never get home?

I think Americans commute longer than 408 days in their lifetime. Where I live in California, traffic is so bad we judge our commute by time not miles.

I lived in Germany, on the Rhine, they run boats, like buses, between several towns. I wonder it this is what they mean?

408 days over a lifetime? That’s not much, really. Are they averaging in children?

After a tiring day, a commuter settled down in her seat and closed her eyes.

As the train rolled out of the station, the guy sitting next to her pulled out his cell phone and started talking in a loud voice: “Hi sweetheart. It’s Eric. I’m on the train”.

“Yes, I know it’s the six thirty and not the four thirty, but I had a long meeting”.

“No, honey, not with that blonde from the accounts office. It was with the boss”.

“No sweetheart, you’re the only one in my life”.

“Yes, I’m sure, cross my heart”

Fifteen minutes later, he was still talking loudly.

When the young woman sitting next to him had enough, she leaned over and said into the phone,

“Eric, hang up the phone and come back to bed.”

Eric doesn’t use his cell phone in public any longer.

I roughly calculated 408 days of commuting over a lifetime is 25 minutes to get to work each day.

That apartment building is still standing only because it’s foundation was made by the best—ancient Romans.

I don’t regret my commute time. Great time to listen to the radio. “Dig the happy show with the real good Joe called Yokum! Did the happy show with the real good Joe on Channel 98, color radio, heresss Joe Yokummmmmmmm!”

And that old apartment building in Istanbul still doesn’t disintegrate in earthquakes like apartment building built in the last 20 years in Istanbul.

If you listen to audiobooks while commuting you can read a book a week or so, and you don’t have to look at it as lost time commuting but rather time gained reading.

Thank God for my 20-minute commute; 15 minutes off rush hour.

There are buildings like that in Peru, modern buildings built upon Inca ruins

I worked 40 years, five days a week, 12 min. a day. That comes to 40 hours.

I spend 6.25 days a year commuting! Not too shabby! Some mornings I wish it was a little bit longer!

The Byzantine Empire is just our modern name for the eastern Roman Empire. They called themselves Romans, even though they mostly spoke Greek by then.

That’d read better as “built during”, not “built from”…

So very thankful that I work from home. My commute is a few feet from my bed.
