Arlo and Janis looked surprised at the questions they’re being asked. Why would A & J think the kids would have no interest in whether or not they liked what they saw ?
Hope JJ decides that Arlo and Janis don’t want to move. I used to like the kids – but just like your own wear a bit thin as time goes on, these too are too much when they have become a regular part of the strip.
My parents were indecisive for years and it ended up coming down to a rushed move closer to me with my sister and I doing the heavy lifting of the move and organizing because of ill health for my mom. They need to get over their belief that they have ‘time’.
10 acres with a 1500 sq. ft house? So what is the plan for those 9.75 acres not used by the house site? Are they going to plant it to crops? Raise a cow or two? 10 acres requires a lot of work. Arlo and Janice are not that young anymore. She was right when she said ‘if we were 20 years younger’. An acreage like that is one of our dreams, but we recognize at our age we cannot handle that much work.
My “kids” wanted my wife and I to move up near them in Arkansas, too many obligations here and now they are considering moving back down for some reasons I won’t go into but we would be stuck.
What I found interesting is that they now have a vehicle with a power liftgate. Another feature that we all got along without for many years. I would have thought that Arlo would have forgone that feature.
The reality is that not all older folks think the same. Some enjoy being very close to their adult children and grand children and others prefer a little distance. I hope A&J make the right decision.
When our son and daughter-in-law said they. Wanted us to live close, I asked if they were just luring us to their town and would abandoned us. They laughed and said no. He got the moving fever for a spell, but got over it. We love being close to our new granddaughter.
My sister moved my mom to a nursing home near her when mom could no longer live along.
My sister-in-law moved my mother-in-law in with her just because she MIL should do so.
Other than that we have all basically moved into an apartment when married and then into a house (my other sister moved into a Manhattan apartment instead of a house) and have stayed there.

Thank goodness there’s no pressure on them.

[And yes, I mean “these too are too much ”!]

One supposes that it is natural to consider these things carefully, but I do wish they’d make up their minds and get along with their lives.

I was sure Mary Lou was going to be pregnant.

Well, that’s all I’d need to hear and I’m packing.

I’ve been rereading the strips from 1994. Gene had a crush on Mary Lou back then! Wow!

Well, being close to the kids would be a benefit, and they could help each other out, too!

Oh for heaven’s sake. Just move already. Then if you don’t like it, sell the place and move someplace else.

If I may paraphrase, “Here we are. Here we stay.” This is house #8 for me.

Nothing like a hard sale to make me turn away. Turn around, find a nice hotel and enjoy some adult beverages in the hot tub.

“When are you moving” is a bit premature, even if they had decided to do it. There is no house yet.
