You’ve got to give Dave a lot of credit here. He’s taken a subject which is very much in the public sphere, but which not too many cartoonists have incorporated into their humour – at least not from what I have seen.
AI was used his year for NFL kickoffs, said it would make the game more exciting for the viewers. This is a big miss, bring back the old kickoffs, they are more exciting.
The precursor to all of this was the movie “Colossus: The Forbin Project”. Great movie, but a little dated. Actually, could use a remake. Then came the Terminator led by SkyNet.
I’ve played with AI to generate some pictures for me. Sometimes it creates stunning results. Sometime it just doesn’t “get it,” and other times bombs entirely like adding extra limbs,
It can produce cartoonish images that are suitable to accompany articles I write.
I would never trust AI for air defense. As a pilot I’ve asked it to generate aircraft images. One would think that with thousands of real world images online to use as an example, it could even come close. It fails miserably every time.

For those who don’t get it, those AI-based image generators often produce a person with extra limbs or even heads for some reason.

It ain’t no intelligence at all. It just a steenky computer program. The name AI is all just steenky marketing gimmicks.

He lies (or failed to follow the AI design). The hands lack the extra fingers that are typical of AI.

Dave just wants to make sure that if someone uses the prompt “Create a cartoon in the style of Dave Coverly” they get really peculiar results…
