It’s horrible living with perfectionists! Thank goodness there’s choice for anyone who gets stuck with living with one (such as getting your own apartment).
I wonder if Opal always strived for the best, or only after she got married. If Earl was the best she could do at the time, and she was intent on improving him, she apparently has a ways to go too, either that or admit defeat.
Striving to do one’s best in all things isn’t necessarily perfectionism. Striving for excellence & integrity means you accept that things won’t always turn out the way you wished but you do it anyway and hope to learn from your failures.
Perfectionism is a disorder where you punish yourself if you are unable to achieve your goals which are often unattainable.
