I had the experience of a skunk being killed outside my bedroom window. I didn’t realize just how poignant the odor was when it was so close up. It was so strong, it literally woke me up at around 4:00 a.m. Even when I got rid of the skunk, the odor hung around outside for weeks. Unfortunately it made its way inside the house, too. Eventually it faded, but it is something I’d rather not have happen again.
Looking past the wonder of evolution that allowed only the stinkiest of this Mephitidae to survive over the generations, skunks do not (technically) hibernate, though they will go dormant into a state known as torpor. So be careful, you still might encounter a skunk even in the cold winter.

Good morning Shikamoo, Dsnerker, Dry and Dusty and all! Louie will not get sprayed by a skunk today.

Louie wants the stink. But he’ll need Henry to be in an exceptionally good mood to suffer that willingly.
Good morning, crew!

Skunks don’t usually ask, or even warn.

I don’t think dogs like being sprayed. The stuff burns just to breathe it at close range. They’re just too dumb to know (or remember) what’s coming.
