If updated, I doubt he’d type that much information to his mom’s text message. He’d type "All is good. Got the cheque. Thanks a bunch. Hi to everyone. (heart emoticon). Tap Send. Done. However, with the microphone feature in Text Messaging, I suppose he can yak all he wants as microphone is a modern version of the stationary phone. Or would he bother to Facetime her?

Especially when Elly learns that they’re living with two girls! I wonder if she’ll stop payment on the check when she hears that!

They just moved in, and already the place looks like a pigsty!!

That microphone doesn’t enunciate and messages get interesting.

Is “rez”—I assume short for residence hall—a Canadian/British term for a dorm? I never heard it used here in the States, although the office on campus that handled dorm issues, including room assignments, was called “Residence Life.”

Years ago my husband & I had an answering machine that had a very limited record time. Almost everyone we knew would leave ultra-short messages…except for one friend who would use up the time, hang up, call back, continue the message, etc. Sometimes he would take up 4 or 5 messages.

He shouldn’t have mentioned about the two girls. Sometimes you should only volunteer the necessary information only otherwise you might create a stir!

When we go around the table next week saying what we are thankful for I will say “that we didn’t have cell phones when I was a kid.”

I’m betting Mike called during a time when he KNEW his mother wasn’t home so he wouldn’t have to face a deluge of questions!

You could have called a little later in the day when one of your parents was at home, to say thank you a little more personally.

Those were fun, you could really get creative with the answering machine outgoing messages

Ah yes, the good old day’s when family members would race to the answering machine, to make sure there were no embarrassing messages they didn’t want others to hear. Texting has ruined a fun game.

I remember thinking it would be cute to express mild irritation with a friend who was never home by leaving a message for the answering machine, going on about how much I always enjoyed talking to it. I actually think I got the idea from a comic strip, but not this one. Baby Blues maybe?

Operator: What’s the name?

Bob: First name Bob. Last name: Weaddababyeetzaboy.

As soon as Elly gets that message, she will be on the phone asking Mike one question: “WHAT GIRLS?”

Paid parking? Does Michael even have a car?

There have been plenty of people who have had big debts behind a facade of the good life.

How come Canada has free healthcare but not subsidized housing or free food?

I rented a small apartment when I was doing my internship. My landlord was a constant thorn in my side. Some time after I moved out, I went to visit my old neighbors. They told me that the person that took the apartment after me had done a lot of damage. I try not to be a vengeful person but I couldn’t help but get some satisfaction from that news.
