“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened”. Douglas Adams.

The moon names are every bit as reasonable as the names of the months, and would have been site specific.

In the USA at least, most, if not all, of the moon names come from the native tribes, for whom the moon and sun were the calendar. The full moons marked times during the year when different activities would be done.

I have yet to see the Super moon here where I live with all the lights buildings and clouds in the way. I asked my cousin who lives on a farm in northern Alberta to send me pictures. After a long day of farming, he rose up out of his recliner, went outside and took two gorgeous shots. The moon was so bright that it lit up the clouds, the trees and ground under it

Audrey Hepburn and Moon River in Breakfast at Tiffany’s then there’s Bad Moon Risin’, Fly Me to the Moon, Walking on the Moon, Neon Moon and Bark at the Moon. Now tell me who sang the rest after Audrey;)

Uh, Caulfield, the solar system doesn’t name itself. That’s done by fallible humanity.
