In the news yesterday, 3 hunters died of heart attacks whilst dragging the deer back to their car. Local Health official suggested that maybe hunters should get a physical and be in better shape before hunting season.

Karma: the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences:Not Karma: divine retribution
Human beings can change: (1) a hunter in Central Borneo spent much of his life hunting orangutans for the illegal pet trade. The favorite ploy was killing the mother and taking the infant. One afternoon after successfully shooting a mother, before she died, she crawled away from the tree and laid her baby at his feet. He never hunted again and established a reserve for the animals. (2) A hunter in the Northeast of the U. S. was a yearly deer hunter. One day while he was out hunting he spotted a young doe who had broken through the ice of a pond and she was drowning. It took some time but he rescued her and never hunted again. (3) My father was a sniper in WWII in Europe and prior to that an avid deer hunter. When he came back he never hunted again.
Gee Whiz. I didn’t count on running into a national confab on the pros and cons of hunting. I just saw it as ‘just desserts.’ The deer ‘check in’ clerk was just the icing on the cake.
But also pity for a guy who obviously didn’t take care of his weapon, got the barrel plugged, and made a mess of his face/head – something his family really would not want to see. Bound to happen in coming months.
“I’ve hunted men—-been hunted by men. that always seemed fair enough.”
But sneaking up on some poor wild animal that’s minding its own business just to kill it….well, that never struck me a s sporting.Guess your old Daddy’s a softie,Annie"
I hunted for a number of years… I enjoyed venison, and I was able to share a lot of venison with older folks in need. Some of my most enjoyable times were just hiking in the mountains enjoying the scenery and other wildlife i did not have a license for. Eventually I gave it up, mostly because hunting has an inordinate percentage of “bubbas” who have no regard for the laws and regulations, and the lust that some have to just kill an animal with no intention of using the meat is so offensive to me…putting it mildly….

Killing trophy animals — fellow sentient earthlings of different species — for “sport” is an outrageous crime against nature.
I am all in favor of hunting — but with a CAMERA instead of a gun. Kind of a painless version of “catch and release” for critters not in the water.
All the elements of the sport are there — tracking, following, living with nature, pointing, shooting and getting a trophy.
The ONLY element missing is the bloodlust, and that is not a valid reason to take a sentient life for “sport.”
That blood lust is a symptom of deep pathological cruelty — mental illness that presents a clear and present danger.

I don’t have a problem with hunting if you eat it.. use parts of it for clothing or tools.. and don’t hunt to extinction!!!

All that you’ve said is valid, I’m just glad to hear your opinions again after the no comment policy on the political side.

If you hunt to feed yourself/your family, fine. If not, hunt in the meat section of your local grocery store.

It takes more skill to take a picture than to kill an unsuspecting animal from hundreds of yards away.
