I do remember my favorite teachers from 23 years in school, yet none of them made learning fun. I did that, and I still do in semiretirement. Currently, the internet is getting me back into the math I didn’t understand nearly a half century ago, particularly a young genius in Mu Prime on You Tube.

Some teachers had the knack of grasping their students attention, and others woefully lacked in that department. I don’t necessarily think it was the subject matter, but how it was presented. I’m still not sure what that “knack” was, though.

Field trips were fun and I learned a lot from them.

Ms Heinz – K – wore sweaters clipped over her shoulders – we made a swim pool with beans, Mrs Pope introduced me to Haikus = they flowed out from me, Mrs Sapp we loved her so much we got the Principal to let us do a Mrs Sapp day to honor her ( I still 40+ years later have a book she gifted me), The Twiggs English teachers neighbors friends and mentors, Mr Grizzel watched the Challenger explode with tears leaking in his eyes our whole physics class was there ( off period) watching too – Mr Kindle who really taught casue and effects of Economics and Politics – a Social studies teacher before his time. Profs H and B who honed an introvert into a thespian. My Art History teacher who I had teh year she retired – she gifted me some of her materials – I used them professionally afterwards doing design work. I remember the good and the awful – the mediocre I forget. There is a special place for teachers – and esp those who work with the special needs kids ( on both extremes).

I remember going to French school in Grade 1, not speaking a word of French. My teacher, Mlle Bourdon, was so patient and kind with me. It is thanks to her that I speak two languages today.

Mr. Beaver, History teacher, 1982, Blooming High South, Indiana…Awesome guy! Mrs. Forester, same school and year, English teacher, Drama teacher…had a habit of yelling at her students, I didn’t like her very much. I had other very good teachers who I loved, but can’t remember their names…but these 2 I’ll always remember, 1 for how to be a good teacher, 1 for how to be a bad teacher.

I remember a few but my Algebra teacher whom I had twice Algebra 1 and Algebra II stands out not because it was fun learning but he had a knack for knowing when I had no clue what the answer was. Smeagol! Come up to the board and figure out the answer lol

Nobody teaches for the money and respect. So they’d better love the job.

I had teachers I liked and ones I did not. My 6th grade writing teacher took the time to straighten out my inability to spell well (L -O-N-G before spell check was even thought of – and long before computers were used in schools). It was the fact that I would write “seplling” on the top of my spelling test which told her that I needed help. (I am very good at spelling these years and even if I might not know why a word I see is spelled incorrectly – I at least realize it is and that I should check the spelling).
