If aliens existed and wanted to visit Earth, how should we handle their visit? Should we require them to apply for a visa?

The bad news, AI is in the hands of humans who think it is the next best thing – it isn’t. They also think it will run safely on its own – it won’t.

For instance, from what I have read, AI might be very good at recording and translating speech in any language. But, appears it can’t determine the different contexts in which one word might be used and thus determine the intention of the users. Also have not read where it can recognize or express feelings or emotional content.

From all indications it makes decision based on incomplete understanding of the above, without consideration of human needs.

Of course, I am going to be proven wrong in all the above but, before I’ll accept that, I gotta see it happen.

We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet.

For some reason, this scenario reminds me of the following joke from maybe 20 years ago:

“Um, Your Holiness, I have some good news and some bad news.”

“Bless you, my son. What’s the good news?”

“Well, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has returned to Earth in power and glory and is on the phone right now wanting to talk to you.”

“But that’s amazing news! It’s wonderful! Overwhelming! Spectacular! What could possibly be bad news after that?”

“Uh, it’s long distance from Salt Lake City.”

Anyone remember that 2001 movie A.I. Artificial Intelligence?

I never hear anyone talk about it.
