Don’t you just know there will be a day when a robot will look around, contemplate the humans it views, and communicate to all the other robots the question, “What do we need these guys for?”
Man, I can’t wait until the algorithm starts managing itself, and everyone in Silicone Valley ends up homeless, trying to start up start-ups in the street.
Then we can finally move on from social media, clickbait, and SEO bullcrap, and go back to the internet of yore.
Maybe tomorrow we’ll see if that Manager Bot 3000 has to report to a Vice President Bot 3000. (Will there also be a President Bot 3000, CEO Bot 3000, and a Board of Director Bot 3000’s? Stay tuned…)
WESLEY: When your crew has been removed, the ship’s engineering section will be modified to contain the computer.
KIRK: Why remove my crew?
WESLEY: They’re not needed.
KIRK: How much security does this gadget require?
WESLEY: None. Doctor Daystrom will see to the installation himself and he’ll supervise the tests. When he’s ready, you’ll receive your orders and proceed on the mission with a crew of twenty.
KIRK: Twenty?? I can’t run a starship with twenty crew.
WESLEY: The M-5 can.
KIRK: And what am I supposed to do?
WESLEY: You’ve got a great job, Jim. All you have to do is sit back and let the machine do the work.
Lest we forget, the ""Three Laws of Robotics" are immutable, they’re coded into every machine’s “DNA” and can’t be circumvented. I know there are a couple of additional laws, but these are the most important. I even have them posted on the wall of my office.
So okay, I looked it up. It’s essentially the same as the first law, but instead of protecting a human, they must protect humanity:
Isaac Asimov’s Zeroth Law of Robotics states, “A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm”. Asimov introduced this law in his 1985 novel Robots and Empire. It takes precedence over the other three laws of robotics and allows robots to override human commands if they can calculate long-term harm
Reminds me of Richard Deacon in an episode of The Twilight Zone. The factory was 100% automated. Until Robbie the Robot took over for Richard Deacon he liked it.

That’s OK. Winky can always get a job as a crash test dummy. It’s safer that working for Dr Mel. Pays better, too.

Get a job as a botanist.

Twilight Zone did this concept in 1964 with “The Brain Center at Whipple’s”.

Yeah, but the robots don’t have spleens…

Sometimes I look around at the current state of the world and think… perhaps a robot revolution would not be a bad thing.

No robot makes a better scapegoat than Winky, when something goes wrong. People are just better at some things. :)

We need CEO 3000 and all the top-ranking jobs replaced with bots that don’t take the salary of 10,000 employees.

The Twilight Zone episode “The Brain Center at Whipple’s” did that.
