Around garage doors and front stoep and that’s it for outside lighting. No inflatables, no scenes, no signs. Just lights. Good enough for my folks in the 30’s to 50’s and still good enough for me and my girl.

And it’s a good thing I saved my lights from previous years. Most sets are single function and one set has a half dozen light modes off one button. Recently saw one advertised that required a signal output to a phone or gimmick of some kind for the ‘light scheme.’ Had stubby button-shaped bulbs and promised enough light output to blank the sun. Like some modern autos, one can over design a thing past sensible.

When I had them up, I left them up year around – they were hung under the eves so they are out of sight when not lit – two sets of LED’s – one with Christmas colors and one with Red/White/Blue for US holidays – the outlet is wired to switches inside the garage – worked great.

The last time I put up Christmas lights my son was 14, it was 2003.

“The Rodeo Song” is now stuck in my head. The lyrics are hilarious, but not censor friendly. Forty below and I don’t give $uck, gotta heater in my truck, and headin to the rodeo.

My wife is ocd when it comes to taking them down each year, wrapping them and labeling them. The first time she did this, I was like no way, but she nailed it. It takes her a quarter of the time it used to. I like all the lights.
