So that’s what that song is about…

I know sunset is different in different parts of the country, but according to the internet in eastern New Jersey it’s 4:34 PM tonight.

Only 88 days, 21 hours and 47 minutes till Spring!

So of course I woke up at 5:30 am and couldn’t get back to sleep.

And then the days will start getting longer again.

Maude got hit with Seasonal Affective Disorder.

With it getting so dark so early, it makes people feel like a mushroom in a dark dank basement….U. G. H. ! ☹️

But one could just tale a stroll and gather their thoughts and breathe in the cool night air to clear their heads. ☺️

Around here the earliest sunset was a week ago; The sun will set one minute later than that tonight. The earliest sun rise, however, is still over a week away. While we gained a minute in the evening, we lost a minute and a half in the morning.

It’s a good night to watch movies! I’m screening a cartoon feature!

Far better than sunrise not happening until 8a or 730a or 7a.

Thankfully the artist didn’t say 4 P.M. in the afternoon. One of my biggest “get off my lawn/old man yelling at the clouds” gripe is when people say (say) 7 A.M. in the morning. Stop it! It’s up there with Daylight Savings Time.

Yay Happy Solstice! Now the days will start getting longer here!

But that’s OK, because THIS IS IT! Starting today, we finally start taking our sun and our daylight BACK from the land down under.

I understand that there are practical reasons in many circumstances for people to want daylight to linger, but a purely affective aversion to long dark evenings is hard for me to grasp . If I were in this cartoon, the reason I’d have for feeling gloomy is precisely that, from now on, the incursions of the afternoon sun on “my old friend” dark evenings are going to be more and more transgressive.
