Long ago I shared an apartment. My roommate and went to dinner and he ordered a steak dinner with baked potato with butter and sour cream and apple pie à la Mode and a diet coke. The waitress could not contain herself and repeated the order with emphasis on the “and a diet coke” as she burst out laughing like Birdie on the Great Gildersleeve radio show. (Yeah, I’m that old)

What about a doughnut and a coffee without a sweetener?

Donuts: You would think, through the power of sympathetic magic, that something shaped like a ‘zero’ would have only a few calories, if any. Wishful thinking, I guess.

I can’t stand diet drinks with their chemical artificial sweeteners. I know some people like them but to me they taste terrible.

I drink diet soda because HFCS is way too sweet and my GI does not like it.

I’ve switched to diet sodas but my stomach seems to have figured out my scheme and just makes me snack more to make up for it.

I have tried “diet” things but after a couple times they just taste too “wrong.” I won’t consume anything with an artificial sweetener if I can help it.

That’s just wrong. Savory snacks with soda chemicals! Coffee, tea, or milk with doughnuts!

Donuts are to be treated the same as cookies. Pull or break apart, allows calories to evaporate.

I tentatively seem to recall that, 55 or so years ago, Diet-Rite tasted better to me than other colas, regardless of how they were sweetened.

For those who say it’s “not healthy”: It’ been my diet since I was young (with frequent substitution of pizza or burgers for the donuts). I’m over 80 and still going strong (except for some arthritis in my knees).
