I used to do about 4500 steps and wondered how anyone could get 10,000. Then I finally decided to listen to my doctor and exercise. She was shocked!! Anyway, I do around 15,000 a day now.
I think it was a Japanese study that came up with the 10,000 steps a day number. Another study here in the US said that for those 55 and over 4500 is the minimum. I ride a bicycle for exercise, a single speed 29 pound bike and my rides are 30 minutes long at 9 to 10 mph on average and I burn +/- 200 calories, each 30 minute ride in steps equals 5000 steps. I do not know what 10,000 nags amount to in steps;)

TEN THOUSANDS?! That’s ridiculous! If the kids won’t listen when you talk to them normally, why bother?

Unfortunately, 9,998 of those were directed at Hammie. He missed a record by two.

Why 10,000 steps? Perhaps because the kanji for 10,000 (万) looks like a person running. Manpo-kei!
Or so my wife says, and she is never wrong.
