But won’t PETA come after us if we keep them in a tiny cage like that?

/// For The Evening Meal this moonless night,

women sit ‘round the sole source of light.

    Winter sunlight is fleeting,

so to see what they’re eating,

    candles clustered together burn bright.

    The evening meal

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Undated paintings" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Brave search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string Bail, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this tenebristic, chiaroscuro (a couple words I’ve learned along the way as I complete 12 years of doing this) painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3436 (December 31, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .jpg from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing the blog entry with my comment pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 2 works by him have been used here (3 times total, including a repeat), the November 9, 2023, strip being the prior (the repeat).

So here’s a curious thing. This painting is apparently known in French as “Commis épluchant les oignons”, “Servants peeliing onions”. There aren’t any onions or peeling implements or onion-peeling activities in the picture. The English title seems to be “The Evening Meal”. It was sold under that title by Bonham’s in 2014, for $35,000. So what’s up with the French title? We wonders, yessss, we wonders, gollum.
