So here’s a curious thing. This painting is apparently known in French as “Commis épluchant les oignons”, “Servants peeliing onions”. There aren’t any onions or peeling implements or onion-peeling activities in the picture. The English title seems to be “The Evening Meal”. It was sold under that title by Bonham’s in 2014, for $35,000. So what’s up with the French title? We wonders, yessss, we wonders, gollum.
