And yes, BLOOM COUNTY is needed! Ol’ Berke sez that alot of things happening in the country aren’t funny – well if you don’t laugh at the lunacy, what will you do?!?
Bloom County was an often-brilliant commentary on the lunacy of those times…While I also love seeing some of the old strips (much like Classic Peanuts – except that Peanuts was never contemporary enough to ever become dated), Bloom County, and the ill-fated Outland, are examples of that timeless truth: You Can Never (really) Go Home Again. ’Not even if your home was in Bloom County
Are we not gonna see the rest of 1987 through 1989? Any particular reason for this?
If I remember correctly, Berke developed some kind of illness that has left him unable to draw or something. That’s why he ended the “Opus” strip in 2008.
Bloom County ruled its era. Doonesbury never came close to the satiric absurdity of BC. The only equivalent I can think of is the TV show M*A*S*H for its era.-Can Mr. Breathed bring back BC? I wish so, but it strikes me that our era has become so jaded and cynical that BC would seem too sweet and naive for this generation. It would take a new voice to mock our generation so thoroughly.-I miss Opus and gang, and wish Mr. Breathed success in books and movies.-Peace, Love, and Cherished Memories,Vonne Anton

Even if I had all the correct answers, I wouldn’t win. That’s what 30 years does to you. Opus, we still miss you!

Every time I see one of these Sunday strips, it reminds me of “Pear pimples for hairy fishnuts”. Not sure why, but that’s what comes to mind …

Some Bloom County strips are timeless, but this is horribly dated.

The thing about penguin lust is that it looks like balloon animals mating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8LI1Ghq29o&NR=1&feature=endscreen

I’d watch Late Night with Uncle Opus over Leno any and every time.

Bloom County and Late Night with David Letterman. Two things that helped me get through graduate school in the ’80s.

When you say “Berkeley Breathed” to my now 30 year old kids, they say, in unison, “FannyWhammer” – from one particular Outland comic from around 1990.

Take out David Letterman, insert Conan O’Brien
