I have had exactly one cup of cola in the past 30 years. When I was 17 I was put on a caffeine-free diet for a year. When the year was up I did discover the malted-battery-acid taste, and have avoided it since, with the one exception of being at an airshow, VERY thirsty, and Coke being the only drink available (no water, either). It was so gross I couldn’t even finish it.
Juvenile diabetes is now called Type 1 diabetes, While it is not caused by sugary sodas, the disease is certainly exaerbated by kids’ consumption of the stuff.
In my job, I hear almost daily how a customer used a bottle of “coke” to remove the corrosion from their battery terminals. Although here in the south, it’s hard to tell if they used Coca-Cola or Pepsi; the term “coke” is used interchangeably for either brand. “Malted battery acid” indeed!
I believe that the “New Coke” was simply a “clever” (I’ll leave it to the reader to decide how clever it was) marketing ploy to cover up Coca-Cola’s switch from sugar as the sweetener to high-fructose corn syrup. My mother, who has drunk Coke forever, swears that the Classic Coke, as they call it, does NOT taste like the Coke before the “switch” and I believe the change in taste is due to the use of HFCS rather than sugar.
In a blind taste test, when New Coke came out, it lost big time. The 20% true Coke fiends all chose original Coke. More chose Pepsi or RC, about evenly. Shasta won.
I have drank different sodas over the years. I have that they seem to have gotten more carbonic acid in them except for A&W Rootbeer which still tastes the same to me. I will dilute the other sodas with water or soy milk before drinking them.
My brother worked at Howard Johnson’s (anyone remember that place?) and would use the cola from the dispensers to clean the floor. It would eat through even the grimiest of grime.
While working at a wildlife refuge, I used Coke to clean the ‘animal’ kitchen floor of dead mouse parts and all the other quite disgusting stuff that would inevitably land there.

I prefer Pepsi, but will drink Coca Cola, or even RC. I’m an equal opportunity malted battery acid swiller! —Anything but milk (ugh)!

Pepsi can be used to loosen rusted bolts and Coke will strip paint like brake fluid. Must be good for what ails you!

Root beer solved all those political issues in our home! These days water will do just fine, thank you.

They lost me at “malted battery acid”. Coke and Pepsi taste great—that’s why they’re such a problem.

I don’t know if Kroger Store Brand is nationwide, but the Big K diet cola is better than either Coke or Pepsi

We liked Dad’s. I do miss the days of going to the A&W with the frosted mugs. Barq’s and A&W were popular too. So many options.
Always wanted to try some of those homemade root beers.

Food ( or rather drink) for thought.
