Lobotomy (Greek: λοβός — lobos: “lobe (of brain)”, τομή — tome: “cut/slice”) is a neurosurgical procedure, a form of psychosurgery, also known as a leukotomy or leucotomy (from Greek λευκός — leukos “clear/white” and tome). It consists of cutting the connections to and from the prefrontal cortex, the anterior part of the frontal lobes of the brain. Lobotomies have now fallen out of use, as doctors use various drugs and psychological therapies to treat mental illnesses.

I had to look up that one. In fact I had to look up what ‘bangs’ meant too !

I agree with Calvin… Susie scares me… something is wrong with her…definitely lobotomy… or brainwashed.

I looked upon the first day of school with dread and began counting down the last days of vacation at least 30 days out.

Muchado Canadians call them bangs, too. The Canadian Government would probably say it’s due to cultural contamination.

I don’t think they use stitches anymore… they just drill a tiny hole and then insert one of those “In the Egg Scramblers” by Ronco! Instant lobotomy!

I am studying medical terminology in college right now and thought that this cartoon was so cute! I sent it to my instructor and posted it on the online discussion board for that course.

I heard once that they actually go in through the eye socket and then do their slicing and dicing. I that event there would be no visible stitches.

Then too, what a shame it is when someone is acting positive, healthy and, gee whiz, normal, and she is taken down for it. We live in a sick, sick world and Calvin, being a product of it, fits right in.

Susie comes home from school in an unusually happy mood, even for her. Her mother asks why she’s so happy. Susie blushes and says, “Today at recess, Calvin kissed me.” Her mother is surprised and says, “I didn’t think Calvin would do a thing like that. How did it happen?” Susie says, “It wasn’t easy. But three other gils helped me catch him and hold him down.” That’s an old joke, but, nah! Susie would never stoop to that.

I live in the Atlanta area. We went from summer to winter in a week. Some places.have spring and fall. We go from too hot to too cold. Indeed, what happened to summer

When it comes to Susie I remember lots of them Calvin in this case would fit in with most of us boys

I agree with ratlum. Girls loved school, but might deny it. Boys said they hated it, but probably enjoyed at least part of it. The most common whine during the summer is “I’m bored!” School is better than that.

BTW, bangs cut straight across like Susie’s have never gone completely out of style. They may not be as common as they once were and aren’t becoming on everybody, so it’s personal choice. Hair sytlists call that part of your hair “bangs” no matter how you cut it.

To eliminate confusion, why not call ‘bangs’ ‘forelocks’?

They have been so called among the equestrianistas for eons with no confusion.

And, holding to the dictionary description thereof, Susie’s DO fall forward between her ears.

As smart as Susie is, I don’t think Calvin’s “lobotomy” comment went over her head. I think she just can’t believe how fast it took him to rain on her parade of excitement regarding the first day of school!

P.S.: Marvee … I’m one girl that NEVER looked forward to going to school … and I’m not just SAYING that either!!!!! One of the top 5 or 6 happiest days of my life was the day school let out for me for good!!!!!

“The Essential Calvin and Hobbes” shows Suzy’s first appearance when Calvin offers her a squid eyeball sandwich. Two strips of foreshadowing (“There’s a new girl in our class…do you like her?” “Here comes that new girl…She’s cute, isn’t she?”) precede her appearance.

At six years of age, Calvin’s incredible knowledge of science and medicine is staggering. Perhaps he really doesn’t need school after all, as he keeps insisting.

Of course, while he is remarkably intelligent, he still misses the obvious opportunity to use his immense knowledge to become filthy rich, and then pay off his parents so they’ll quit antagonizing him.

That’s his most endearing character!!!

It used to be, kids didn’t know HOW to be bored during summer vacation. It’s only in today’s preposterously over-programmed world that kids are (literally) addicted to constant mental and sensory stimulation. It never would have occurred to ANY of us to look forward to the first day of school!

Of course Susie got it! …Havent u guys read the comix’s lol….and she is gonna be really pissed and obnoxious with him next time she sees him!
