I try to slow things down and give my granddaughter as many choices as I can during the days when she’s with us. She’s only three but both her parents have worked since she was born and now they work on different schedules and work long hours. I realize they both have to work but she gets stuck in the middle and she’s expected to be happy about it. They’re always in a rush picking her up or dropping her off because work is waiting or they have errands to run. She’s rushed for waking, eating, bathing, dressing, and sleeping. I’m worried when she’ll get down time now because if things work out, they’re sending her full-time to pre-school in a couple months.

For me by far the worst event of the day would be Moe. All the rest would be mere mild annoyance by comparison.

Such small and trivial things it would seem but to a young person they are very big. It continues to amaze me the way that Waterson is able to bring such things to life and how all of us can remember these things happening. And I sighed at the end too! Happy mothers day to everyone mother out there! You are God’s true saints!

Like Calvin I could never remember the good things that happen in a day, only the bad. As Human, said, things don’t really change when you grow up either.

Happy Mother’s Day! I tend to lurk and have totally enjoyed reading all your posts…what time to you guys post these things? It’s midnight my time, and I fall asleep WAY before then! I, too, have a Loki, who is the absolute sweetest dog, so proving all my friends wrong….I teach as well, but high school, so I see a lot of larger sized Calvins (and Moes)..

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, MAMAS! (Mine is 91 and still spry and chipper. I keep telling her, “Just wait ‘til you get to be my age, Mom.”)

Ah, welcome to the real world, Calvin. The charm of this strip was his continual fight to stay immature in the face of days like this one.

    My life in 12 panels.

But you know it really isn’t because we learn to make the best of what we have - as even Calvin does when he’s out with his wagon or his sled. What he/we need to learn is that the pleasure is there if you look for it.

By the way, to “blow up” the strip, many browsers will let you enlarge a page by holding down the CTRL key and pressing the + key. Ctrl and - will shrink it again. I don’t know if this works in the Mac world.

All I have to do is click anywhere in the strip and it expands about 2x or so; another click on the blow-up, and it shrinks. Javascripted, IIRC. At least when I disabled Java, it quit working…

This is what I’m always talking about about the parents.

It isn’t right, and you all just said so yourselves.

    Poor kid.

I still wouldn’t ever change anything about this strip though. It will always be my #1. Perfect just the way it was.

I had days like this as a kid, too, and couldn’t wait to grow up. And now that I AM grown up …………… I wouldn’t go back to those days for anything in the world! Some days may still feel like this but at least as an adult, I’ve got more control over my life now than I did when I was a child.

I hope all the mom’s and mom’s to be had a great Mother’s Day today, I certainly did.

Dino what type of jobs does your daughter and son-in-law have? Also I know you enjoy your granddaughter soon she will be older and not needing grandma so much but you will see her in school plays. I would imagine they have higher education to. Me my daughter is 24 and with her finance not married can’t afford to but smart enough to hold off on children. Their golden female retriever is their dog. My daughter wants to go back to school but money is a problem she wants to be a fitness instructor and watches nutrition. Our son 27 needs to go to school but will not apply for help, high school didn’t help saying he was more for work the schooling. And where we live the jobs are not great.

Calvin - this is why when adults have days like you just did they take sleeping pills to try to go to sleep and get some rest…Sic transit gloria mundi. I’m a nightowl myself. Mornings, whatever. Civilization begins at noon…
