I got something similar to that from out three year old (four in January) granddaughter. I was reading her a bedtime story and she let out a sigh and asked if she could watch it on DVD instead of listening to me read the book. She then told me that it was what Mom does instead of reading her a book before bed. I told her that not every story is a movie on DVD and then had to try to answer the why question once again.
I’m with you Fer Lefer… Movie first! I can’t stand watching a movie after I’ve read the book, but if I watch the movie first and then read the book, then I can watch the movie and it’s not a problem!
hi be-monk
i remember that story, but it’s been years since i read any Asimov. ( i re-read “I, Robot” when it was on my Nephew’s reading list in his first year of university; so i guess that makes it nearly ten years.)
and, “Is this a kissing book?” comes from The Princess Bride doesn’t it? I love the subtitle on that book (Good Parts version), and i loved the book - the movie too!
I rarely ever read the book then see the movie and vice versa. Both versions are usually so different from each other that I end up disappointed in the end that neither one was exactly the same as the other.
Calvin is only trying to ensure he has only the highest quality material read to him to enhance his education.
Used to read the “Sweet Pickles” books to our son when he was young, and always had to do different voices. Sometimes forgot which voice went with which character from book to book, but apparently satisfactory.
I have only seen the previews for “Benjamin Button”, which educated me that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote the original story. Bought a book with it in it, and decided a good movie could be made from it. But the previews of the one which WAS made had virtually no connection to the story.
B-MONK I’m much too young to have read the originals, though I was a child prodigy before I grew into an outright steenkin genius. I didn’t read that till the late 60s and unfortunately did not understand most of the science. I hope I never turn into such an ego-maniac as the author. Humility is my middle name.

imho, he was one of the greatest male vocalists ever.
That’s a ‘laudatory’ comment, Calvin.
I love the incongruity of the child/father in a typical bedtime story situation, contrasted with Calvin who is not at all childlike. A real 6-year-old wouldn’t know about the Pulitzer of NYT Bestseller list, etc.
People I know like the Dragon Ball TV series so much, they’re probably unaware that it was a comic book first, and said comic book is actually based on a Chinese folk tale, “Journey To The West”, and that Goku is actually a Japanese Romanization of Wukong from the tale.

Do not judge a book by its movie.
So long, Johanan?
Destiny23 about 14 years ago
You should always read the book first, Calvin – it’s always better than the movie!

Once upon a time, there was a kid who couldn’t keep their mouth shut long enough to read them a story, now they’re bound and gagged.

There once was a goose who laid a golden egg.
Read the book before the movie
The director was brilliant. That’s how I pictured it. The director was an idiot. Didn’t he get it? The director was a genius. I never thought of that.APPLESCRUFF about 14 years ago

Are there Cliff’s notes for this book? I don’t think Dad has the patience to read the unabridged version.
