And stagger off to the head

And wonder if Tracy is finally dead
But it’s all the same, a story so lame
That little more can be said
The tale is flat, and we marvel that
Locher even bothers to get out of bed
We’ll tune in tomorrow (much to our sorrow)
And down the pathway we will be led
Only to find, like every other time
We should have stayed in bed instead
That’s a logical expectation. Felines (and most animals) would immediately try to spin around and get at whatever is impeding/holding them !
Call it artistic license to give the Author a “pass” but watch the HEIGHT of the CAGE grow way beyond what’s necessary for animal exhibition.
We’ve seen a variation of this “Tracy and the Tiger in a Cage” sequence before, and also with the cage conveniently growing HIGHER as the story progresses.

After Al Kinda and Queenie, now this ! .You have to wonder if when the Acolytes read these COPY CAT replays of earlier death scenes, IF they really think the use of PLAGIARIZED “material” represents SUPERB work ?
I’ve decided the best explanation for the tiger’s behavior lies in Tracy’s britches. If we could see Agent M&M, you’d see her begging the tiger to take her first.
So this is at least the third story in a row where our hero finds himself about to meet his maker, only to be rescued by some implausible device that appears from nowhere (last time it was the King shooting Jack, the time before that it was the little robot coming out of the big robot…it probably goes back further than that, even).
The lack of care and quality in this strip these days has become its most distinctive hallmark, really. Swap that Two Way Wrist Radio for a One Way Trip to Comic Strip Oblivion.
At another time, in another cage, with another Tiger coming, Locher drew him scurring up the bars using his belt around a bar to the higher safety on a trapeze bar.
He still hasn’t used his WristGeenee to call for help or even tried his Taser. The sharp electrcal charges could discourage the Cat.
But NO ! Super writer Locher “pretends” doing a “Sam Catchem” illusion on them … NONE of them EXISIST !
And that, passing as “brilliant” craftsmanship is supposed to impress his readers (?) Perhaps some are, … cheering and applauding loudly around the Old Courthouse in Woodstock ! (?)
Today, I took what may be my last look a Mattie’s Apollo. And I’m still a bit puzzled. He says the strip is a HOMAGE as distinct from a PARODY, All I’ve been seeing though is a likeness of Batman WITHOUT the ears. Not a “whiff” of anything resembling Locher’s “Grouco” Marx - Dick Tracy !
Remember Dan Dunn ? Me thinks Mattie done created Batman’s version of DAN DUNN. Only the lack of “ears” tell the difference. It’s like “Mathew” turn into “Marsh” (Norman, that is). As Locher has signaled elsewhere, life is always faster in the “duplication” lane ! Whatever the name you call it.
Perhaps, Bob Kane is higher up in the ‘pecking order” than Herr SDICKLEGRUBER ? Perhaps, somewhere in Naperville a tear is shed (?)
Thanks for the reference again Sydney. I actually enjoyed rereading that 2003 sequence. I had forgotten about Dove helping Tracy by feeding the Birds to that other blond Tiger. This one is colored better and is made to look larger but this is one phoney plot line. You mentioned that the cage (bird cage actually) grew taller. Actually the whole thing grew much larger during those frames. At first it only appeared large enough to hold one person (Tracy). Later Hawk and his brother are seen standing on a rather large circular base while Tracy is up on the roost above. Even the Tiger fits on the floor of that cage. Amazing how the whole cage grew during that sequence.
As this story continus to unfold … see a Cage grow upward again.
this is the most cowardly Dick Tracy has ever been presented. Locher has him throwing in the towel. As the girl appeals to him hesay = “I’m helpless ! We’re cat food !”
Not a thought of calling for “back up” or trying to defend with his available Taser Gun. It’s sad how LOW, Locher has taken him !
The stench of Tracy’s shorts should keep the Tiger at bay long enough for Lt Teevo to text Tracy on the 2-Way Wrist Genie the best way to escape. (Put the Tiger to sleep like Locher is doing to us!)
