The kids probably will love it. They can eat with their hands, not have to take baths, sleep outside and dig in the dirt. Now that I’m an adult, I’d have to say that I probably wouldn’t.
GrinsToYa - there’s a ** star hotel in the US offering nearly 180% off their rates ($19/night instead of $200) and you just get the floor of the hotel, no TV, no power, no AC etc.
@ Macushalondra - Oh, I bet she is. Trying to stay positive.
Though after doing 2 camping trips this summer and getting ready for the third and last this weekend, I have to say it’s not too bad. Sleeping in the tent is hard on the back, however. ;)
My wife and I tented at the Grand Canyon for our honeymoon and are looking forward to a return trip for our tenth anniversary. We have a good air mattress for the sake of her back. Camping’s great for them as likes it, and we do.
I leave next Monday to take 10 grandkids, great nephews, and young friends camping. This will be our third trip this summer. Some of us like to camp in spite of the outhouse and lack of showers.
Most campgrounds have modern facilities , running water, showers. Camping is more comfortable these days. RV’s, campers, real beds! I’m not much for sleeping in a tent though.
I helped out in a program that took inner city kids on camping trips. They often returned with a newfound sense of appreciation for the tenements their families lived in, no matter how squalid they were!

As far as I’m concerned… camping these days is any motel under $75.

Sure ej–in Canada they only get the size of a small (between crow and eagle) pterodactyl.
(You can verify this at Drumheller–there actually were some of that size).
Sign them up for Scouts & Guides, Elly–then the kids can do it while the parents get exemption.

We’ve been doing camping for a couple weeks at Calvin and Hobbes and now we’re going camping here. I can’t believe Elly’s not dreading this.

Someone call CPS. Benying the children access to a television is barbaric!

maybe you’ll bump into Calvin and his family out there. They are also having an “interesting” time camping. :-)

I have NO tolerance to sit on gross toilet lid in the outhouse and smell lt like stink! EWWWWWWWWW! But the camping trip sounds fun!

The one civilized thing you really want to take on a camping trip is toilet paper. Do not use leaves, or you will regret it.
Forget the outhouse. TP. Small shovel. Convenient tree. Enjoy.

4deerinmyyard, I’m not sure many North Americans will actually squat-down (which I inferred from your suggestion of using a shovel) for “big jobs”.

No camping for me since I was 12. Hated it.

With no TV, I doubt the kids will like it.

When I thumbed my way across the country mumble years ago, I had a sleeping bag and a large plastic trash bag in case of bad weather.
