I actually agree with Clare. I never flinch about eating food that has fallen on the floor; I make a point to allow pathogens to enter my system in order to keep it in shape.
Hmm… Neil may be the only one to survive the next global epidemic. …too bad that means that any survival of our species will be a brain dead level of stupid and we’d be better off as zombies. :-( LOL!
It all depends on the when, what and where. Pre-cooked is usually better than post-cooked when it comes to dropping food. Proteins and moist foods don’t fare as well as fruits, veggies and dry foods. And keeping your floors and counters clean helps with the ‘where’ – but there’s not much you can do if you drop food outside in the dirt (or worse!) except maybe wash it off.

I grew up in a household with both dogs and cats. They didn’t allow for a 5 second rule. They usually had it before it even hit the floor.
