He got good advice from Clovia, but will he take it? Look at his face in the second panel. He’s hooked on food.

The trademark of Gasoline Alley was that the characters changed and grew over time. Now it’s past time that Slim changed and shrank.

At least Corky’s Diner will finally have edible (albeit not top-quality) food again.

As axe-grinder says, Slim needs to live (down?) to his name.

Okay, the story of “Slim’s Second Job” is over. Now, let’s have a story catching up on Judy & grumpy Gideon. Or, maybe, “The Truth About Nubbin.”

She’s right he does need to lose weight but she’s a bit too blunt IMO. She could suggest that she make him more nutritious meals lower in fat and calories. And they could go walking together.

As anyone who has worked in food service knows, the food itself is the cheapest component of the cost of doing business. Overhead (payroll, mortgage payments, utilities, etc.) is what makes up the majority of cost for a restaurant. Paying Slim for the one day of cooking he did probably cost Corky a lot more than all of the food he ate.

I agree with “Norman“‘s assessment of Clovia. Whatever Slim is, or isn’t, Clovia could be a bit more supportive and less critical.

Slim needs tough love, or marriage boot camp!
