Pointing out the problems created by combat is no laughing matter. There are some things Trudeau uses in his strips which make me wonder what the point is unless it is the same anti war message MASH had in in its final years. And Palin is no dummy. Thinking like that elected Obama and THAT really scares me.

M*A*S*H was beginning-to-end an anti-war movie/TV series. It got a little more overt when it became “The Hawkeye Show.”

And GT isn’t exactly subtle, either. Support the troops, by all means; but you don’t have to approve their mission.

Sometimes you have to laugh, so you don’t cry.

rich men got off scott free, and the self-made men became corrupted absolutely. the military industrial complex is taxation without representation, the endless wars go against the will of the governed, the media is in lockstep with “the sane men”, we are told that nuclear waste is “no problemo”, that oil spills cause little damage….is a lie more palatable because it comes to you through the boob tube all wrapped in Sinclair’s flag and carrying a cross? with Beyonce singing the soundbed?

Palin would have faded from ;public view a long time ago if not for the coverage she is given by the media. If she winds up with the nomination, the liberals will only have themselves and their lackeys to blame.

^ To be fair, Palin has done a lot to keep herself in the limelight. It’s not like the Enquirer following around empty celebrities. It’s more a Charlie Sheen situation – the crazy and the venal tied at the hip.

I agree with sandfan. It is the relentless demand for cable news content that allows Palin to keep making big money from her “political celebrity”. Without it, she’s just another uneducated hypocrite spewing misinformed opinions around the family BBQ. If everyone would just stop talking about her she would go away.

The Palinistas need to give it up. No way is she running for president. She is incredibly stupid but she is smart enough to realize one thing; that she is too stupid to be president. Michelle Bachmann would rip her to shreds in a debate.

I’m a liberal and I’d love to see Palin win the nomination. That would assure us of four more years of Obama (who’s no liberal, but far better than any of the possible GOP candidates).

GT is doing penance for his attacks on Nam soldiers years ago. BD was a good deal more contemptible GT even made the battles into a humor fest. Buffy St. Marie’s Universal Soldier got played by every old folkie and electrified new one until they were seen as the problem as much as the complex they were actually working for under the flag cover. They got no brass bands and suffered from this syndrome far worse because their battle conditions were far worse (no offense to the new guys), many were not there by choice and no home support. So now the liberal conscience is kicking in and they have head problem we can admit exist just in time for the right to begin cutting any real services that might help. Likely because the left is showing that sympathy. Nothing like being the middle man in a political down cycle. conversely, the Palins of the world are always willing to see other people’s kids as cannon fodder and their hawk cry never changes.

GT has produced the Doonesbury cartoon since the early 70’s. If you don’t like his point of view or the fact that he comments on current events, don’t read him. I know I certainly wouldn’t waste my time if I didn’t appreciate him. I remember seeing pics of the White House during Watergate and was really shocked at the time. It is now 2011. Get over it. Besides, people needed to know what was happening in one form or another at that time, as they do now.

GT has always been anti-WAR, not anti-GI. The problem OF Palin is that she’s totally symbolic of the hyper-religious hypocrisy of the ultra-right, brainless, boring and dangerous. Bachmann plays from and to the same symbol of hyper-religious, vicious, crazy, lying, and ignorance that represents the WORST side of the “TEA party” that goes WAY beyond the original “anti-tax” message of the relative moderates in that “movement”.

Palin and her “followers” are merely publicity hounds out for the bucks and “15 minutes” that have lasted way too long. Bachmann represents everything this country is AGAINST, and her “following” is beyond the lunatic fringe.

Saw Ann Coulter last night on Maher. She’s an obviously intelligent woman who deliberately inflames hatred and anger, and cites mostly pure, unadulterated lies in her books, carefully worded to avoid libel, or in her speech, slander. Last night got to wondering if her caricatures of “life” aren’t intended to be just cynical parody, in direct opposition to what she knows to be true. Coulter is mean-spirited on the surface, but not stupid or crazy like Palin and Bachmann.

GT is not stupid, crazy, or mean-spirited, just a cartoonist with a great talent for exposing reality.

To be fair the press is hounding her. Without a declaration to run, what excuse does the press have to send all those reporters to Alaska trying to find nay dirt they can dig up about her? An active candidate doesn’t get that kind of attention and they still found nothing. Highly unusual for any politician wouldn’t you agree?GT is a political cartoonist. His views are widely known and as a political cartoonist he lampoons politicians. For a while he did not pick on Obama at all, until Obama did some things he just could not ignore. Frankly I don’t think either party has fielded a good candidate in decades. in my opinion politics is too important to be left to the politicians. An author once said the best writing would be to write about a sociopath and show step by step how each decision is leads to the next. When you get to a certain point and you take reader to the next step for just a moment they say “that’s logical”, then they step back and say “Whoa, where the h*!! did that come from!”Politics are like that. We don’t hear the arguments that lead up to the final decisions, the endless negotiations, the debates, the agendas of the special interest groups. After that, any politician who can look at the proposal and say “Whoa, Where the H*!! did that come from!” has a right to be in office. If they can’t get them out. Looking at the last 50 years or so I’d say we have very few of those if any. Frankly if Sarah does run I will vote for her, at least she’s a decent person.

Yes people, please. Palin’s not running. Never intended to. It is a new job created by the Supreme Court’s Citizen’s United case – the “perpetually possible candidate”. She’s making hundreds of thousands of dollars by pretending to run. PLEASE stop talking about her and she’ll go away.

GT is not bringing Palin back as a subject for serious political discourse, he’s locating her DOLL in the mind of a psychopathic soldier.

GT associates Ray’s psychopathic mind with the Teaparty, who cannot imagine that Ray might be a caricature of their over-the-top “patriotism.”

(By the way, the doll was a gift to Sam’s mother, Boopsie, from B.D. who wanted to annoy his liberal-leaning wife.)

sorry, mary, if you weren’t there you likely wouldn’t understand.I threw a lot of mixed history into the stew. simply: we’ve finally recognized a age-old mental disorder caused by war at just the time the guys who say they support out troops are cutting the budget to treat that disorder. Irony 101. To others: The early Doones strips were often reprints from his college paper days, 1968 on and he most certainly was very much down on the soldier in any of the early Strips from BD’s ROTC gung ho attitude on.

Palin is a corporately-funded-and-influenced, socially pre-Enlightenment, viciously pro-war politician who stirs up the nation’s pitchfork populists. All of the above are undeniable fact and are not personal attacks on the woman herself.
