And they’re starting to charge extra for the Thanksgiving/Black Friday issue because of the extra size of it.

Excuse me, I thought that they were getting paid for PUTTING all the extra ads in that issue.

Nab: don’t forget firing fact checkers and hiring yooung writers who use words like “humongus” and ginormous" to substitute for information. The Washington Post is now a home for homonyms and misinformation.

I won’t pay for adds – never mind pay extra for them.

And then, theres papers like MY “home-town Wreck” … .1. they STOP “supporting” their Community;2. they STOP PRINTING it HERE, IN their Community;3. they FIRE ALL the people (Union and non-union) that WORK in it’s local ‘production’ and SELL OFF the printing press and equipment;4. they PRINT it – 95 miles AWAY and;5. pay THOSE UNION people to ship/transport it to our town !6. they pay LESS than minimum wage to those who bring it to YOUR HOME;7. and CHARGE – THEM – for ‘supplies’ (plastic bags and rubber bands) ;8. they have STOPPED asking if the Customer WANTS to give their carrier a TIP;9. and when the customer DOES give one – that’s NOT to mean, the carrier GETS it!

ALL THIS in the name of “Turning a ‘profit’ for their Investors!”

I had been buying The Philadelphia Inquirer every day for over 30 years. Lately, I have been wondering why. Long time reporters had been let go for newbies who could be paid less. The op-ed page had become a haven for right-wing cranks. Basically, everything had been dumbed down. About a month ago, I stopped buying the paper. The last straw? They downsized their comics page!

I agree, up to a point. It used to be that all you had to do was make a profit. That is no longer good enough. Now the profit each year must be 10-15% higher than last year. How long can a company sustain such a geometric growth in profits and stay in business. This is why we see jobs being sent overseas for cheap labor. That is why quality corners are cut, when possible. If we did not have such a demand for ever-increasing profits, our whole economy for the last 30-40 years might be a whole lot better off.

Today’s strip touches on the central point of declining newspaper readership, they do NOT determine why people BUY the paper and therefor dump comics, local reportage, movie listings, etc. They do look for new (younger) readers might like.

It’s so bad here that the local print rag has resorted to calling subscribers and asking they wanted to subscribe to an exttra copy or two of the Sunday paper! I just got one ofo those calls yesterday.

“Liberal” just means informed and open to new or opposing ideas, yes, a tragic opposition to “conservative” “thought” today. Getting a paper delivered today is difficult, which leaves us with “internet access”- and blogs, and “electronic media”, preaching (mostly) ignorance.

As antiquated and bogus / liberal as most newspapers are, they’ll never be replaced by TV (also antiquated) or the Internet. Ever try to swat a fly with a TV set? Are you gonna clean your windshield with your computer monitor? I’ll never pay for a newspaper but I like to pick up sheets at the donut store with liberal heroes on them like Oh-Bummer!, line the bird cage with them and see how well my bird scores.

Wrong! Basic economics taught that businesses exist to provide goods or services AND make a profit. Be slack in either one and you soon will be out of business.

like I said before @ truecandianmisinformed…Check the listof defunct liberal news agencies that under perform or are out of business due to their slanted liberal bias..I don’t have to watch MSNBC,CNN,or read New York Times..I know their bias in 1 second..Like Ed Murrow said all those years ago..“Good night and good luck”..you libs are gonna need it to prevail because you lack “good” sense"..
