Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for October 10, 2011

Transcript:
Luann: "This 'family' unit we're doing - does it make you want to be a dad?"
Quill: "Sure. I'd like to get marr-"
Girls: "HI QUILL!"
Quill: "G'day, girls!"
Quill: "What was I just saying?"
Luann: "Apparently nothing"
Hey, Luann, put the Green-eyed Monster aside; Quill is walking and talking with you. It is not reasonable to become jealous just because he says hello to a couple of Sheilas.
Finally! That distracted enchantment with girls shows that Greg has had enough with speculation that Quill is gay. Interesting that he has that quality without any discussion that he is a sportsman. On the other discussion board I made the point that his attraction, apart from the obvious sexuality and reciprocal attraction to women, is also the fact that he is “exotic”.
All the women I’ve know are crazy about the dependable old station wagon but there’s room in the garage for the sports convertible too. At pretty much any time of life…
Look folks; this is a comic strip, not real life. These characters are HIGH SCHOOL KIDS!!. Just enjoy it without casting aspersions about Quill’s sexuality. He seems a fine young man, who’s very attractive and attracted to and popular with girls. I hope he stays that way.
I agree – I had a lot of gay friends in college. JJ did this to push his “Quill is gay” agenda and had everything to do this strip. But his comment, however, is true. Gay men are chick magnet. You’d think hetero men would notice and learn from them….but no, they don’t.
High school girls are insecure so Luann is acting like a normal high school girl. We are all adults here and saying she is being silly, she is with Quill and not the other girls, and all he did was say hello back. High school guys like the attention, so Quill is also a normal guy. We know that but they don’t…remember they are high school kids – world of insecurity, self-doubts, self-criticisms, jealousy, etc. I know when Luann is a grown woman, she would react differently when her guy says hello back to women.
I think most people on this thread would agree that the recurring comments about the supposed gayness of the characters is tiresome and overdone, like a stale joke. I roll my eyes when I read such comments, and can’t believe people fixate on it, day in and day out. It has little or nothing to do with this strip, which I think most viewers would agree, like it or not, is about relatively normal, hetero teens. I’m not against gays, but this strip is what it is. Seeing gayness in the strip is the perfect example however of how people don’t see the world as it is, they see the world as they are.
Quill didn’t comit a crime by saying Hi to those girls. He didn’t walk away from Luann for those girls he just said Hi back to them and then walked on with Luann. Luann said it herself, their NOT getting sireous because of the chances of him moving away. So he is abliged to say Hi to other girls. Just because they say Hi doesn’t mean Quill falls head over heels for someone who isn’t Luann.

Nothing Luann didn’t already know. Quill wants to be married & be a dad …. some day. Right now – too many distractions!

A-Ha!
Mr. Oz is STILL attracting a LOT of attention from the OTHER Ladies! And he’s STILL checking them out in panel three!
Are you PAYING attention, Luann?
Ready to be “just another conquest”?
Of COURSE You are…….,
COFFEE, Time!!

He’s pretending to be married, not pretending to be dead. Why do I see this strip as another example of Luann’s low self-esteem issues?

station wagons and vans are cheaper than renting a room.

Maybe Quill is visualizing having a station wagon as well as a sports model. Maybe two.

why is there the assumption that all women want to get married?
