Blasphemy! They assert that the Creator of the Universe was too stupid to create a universe that could function without outside intervention.

Wonder if my echo works yet. Echo … echo … wombat … echo. Sigh. Nope, still broken. (Phineas & Ferb fans might understand that ‘broken’ echo).

Interesting, I’ve never heard that god created the grand canyon in 6000 years, I instead heard that this planet has been around for billions of years and God helped prepare it for man kind, that and something about time is different between god and man, that a second in god time is a lifetime in mans time, thus 6000 years god time could be millions or billions of years in god time. Beats me though, i’ve never studied it just what I’ve been taught and told.

If a theory cannot be disconfirmed, then it is not a scientific theory. Any appeal to a diety as a reason cannot be disconfirmed … ergo, creationism is not a scientific theory.

Try Thomas Huxley’s “On Agnosticism” in which he demonstrates that the existence or non-existence of God cannot be demonstrated by the scientific methods, as either is a faith statement. So use the scientific method for science and faith for faith. Also, he coined the word, but he didn’t mean “Duh, I don’t know whether God exists or not”, but the above limits on both science and faith. (See his comment before replying to Soapy Wilburforce’s question in the famous Oxford debate.)

The Big Bang did occur when God said, “Let There be Light.” However, the Earth as we know it was completed 144 hours later, and that all transpired no more than 100,000 years ago. Whether the Grand Canyon was created by underwater currents during the Great Flood, or by Paul Bunyan dragging his ax behind him, or dug by Pecos Bill (another legend I heard), doesn’t matter. The whole joke is that the sides of the canyon are cliffs and abbreviated stories are called “Cliff’s Notes.”

The NOVA program you are referring to had nothing to do with the Grand Canyon. It was about the huge prehistoric Lake Bonneville that covered much of what is now Utah. It ruptured a natural dam at Red Rock Pass and flooded the Snake and Columbia River canyons. The Grand Canyon was formed by the Colorado River.

BTW, the vertical walls of the Grand Canyon show the pattern of rapid erosion, not gradual stream erosion. You can argue about when the catastrophe happened, but to deny rapid erosion requires some amazing rethinking of normal geological patterns.

The creationists are both RIGHT and WRONG. True, God DID create everything that exists…He just didn’t do the ORIGINAL creation in six calendar days.
