Miss Bliss: I've got a big box full of many different kinds of pasta! We're going to glue the pasta onto an object. We'll use oatmeal boxes. Then we'll paint it with gold paint. Et voila! A lovely art object that would make a fine gift! Dill: Finally! A giftable art form that combines coloring, glue and food! Alice: Have you noticed that oatmeal never has marshmallows in it?

My family still has the oatmeal box with gold-colored pasta glued on it that was brought over from the old country in 1843. At one time, there was an Indian raid and it was captured along with the other goods in the house. The Indians thought it was ugly back then, too. Once you get one of those things in your family, it’s harder to get rid of than last year’s Christmas fruitcake.

Profound contrast in panel 4. I hope Dill doesn’t try to eat that objet d’art!

Well I can’t speak for anyone else, but at least she’s not using food that I might be tempted to eat.

Dill looks particularly Muppet-like in panel 4, a la lovable, furry old Grover.

And Alice, thank goodness there are no marshmallows in oatmeal. I hate marshmallows. What oatmeal really needs is chocolate. Lots of chocolate.

Unfortunately, some varieties of instant oatmeal (individually packaged in boxes) does contain marshmallows!

I remember making one of those when I was a kid. Many Moons ago.

We’ve come full circle! In the very first strip (at least on GoComics) Alice was lamenting over the lack of marshmallows in her cereal.

okay – two comments today… on the Martha Stewart show back in September 2011, the craft demonstrated was making fascinators (those tiny British hats) out of pasta. I am not kidding.

I’m laughing because my son brought home from school just yesterday a clay bowl filled with glued in beans, then painted gold.

I thought that, for Dill, glue and food were the same things? Perhaps he is only a paste connoisseur…

Kinda like Fusilli Jerry and Macaroni Midler that Kramer made. Just don’t accidently sit on one or you’ll be seein’ The AssMan.

In case of famine, at least you can boil and eat your kid’s art work!
