It’s sad to hear Frank Sinatra Jr. sing his father’s songs and equally sad to see Jeff and Billy desperately try to continue this once outstanding strip(circle). Bil…RIP
My Parents wouldn’t let me see the funnies until we got home from church.. i guess they figured the anticipation anxiety would keep me awake thru the Sermon.. http://www.familycircus.com
__I believe Mr. Keane was related to a childhood friend’s family. If I’m correct, I hope that Ruth, Carl, Mary, Liz, Carlie, Vincent, Margie, and Eddie are coping well. Lovely family — and such a very sweet comic.
That’s one thing I love about the family of cartoonists. They really do care about each other. They are a family tied together in an art form. (even if they plot to kill Scott Adams to get his slot in the papers)
A very nice tribute, Mark. Thank you. And, R.I.P., Bil..@jimac51: I believe you’re right about the original “Family Circle” title, and according to Wikipedia, that is indeed true.
Nah, it’s just stuff I’ve picked up. Some of it I’ve known for years, but my memory was refreshed by the write-ups following Bil’s death.
I used to follow (and occasionally contribute to) the Dysfunctional Family Circus website (I learned of it just a couple of months before King Features had it shut down). Even though the people who kept that site going would have the Keane family doing the most horrible things, many of them had meticulous knowledge of the thing they were so cold-heartedly trashing.
Jeff Keane even participated in a couple of online conversations with the DFC community, and was very personable. He answered a lot of questions people put to him about the Keanes “Behind the Circle.”
Thank you, Mr. Keane. I really enjoyed it when Mr. Keane wrote me a couple years ago about the “Dolly” incident. You will never be forgotten & Bless you for your humor.

Jeff Keane has been doing the strip for the last several years – and he’s fifty-three. Bil Keane was in his 80s.

Beautiful.
I like to think the circle of cartoonists families, are always ready to draw from outside of the box, when supporting each other.

There’s also the graphic “breaking of the fourth (third?) wall” to let Lio leave his square panel and hang the wreath on Keane’s round one.
An altogether great tribute!
