    You can keep the oysters, but my cardiologist says I need to lay off the liver pate and cheese.I liked them even as a kid.

    I tried an oyster once. It slid down nice and easy. Then it turned into a projectile and hit the wall.

    Oysters… meh. I tried ‘em once, at the insistence of a guy who I suspect thought I’d either fall in love with ‘em or provide an interesting projectile-vomit show. He forgot I ride motorcycles, and have swallowed things far more… interesting… than what’s essentially a live booger. At least it didn’t have legs that wiggled all the way down..But foie gras… mmmmmm… which of course leads to a moral dilemma when you consider how it’s made (sigh).

    I’d eat any of that. My Mom used to make an hors d’oeuvre with a smoked oyster and a baby eggplant held together with a toothpick. She had to chase me away or I’d eat them all before the guests had a chance at them.

    Oyster stew, oysters Rockefeller, oyster chowder, oyster stuffing…yum!Cooked they’re GREAT, I don’t know if I’d like them raw—-never had them that way.

    @catlady, I have a nice little piece of dark chocolate every day (organic and rated by cocoa content). Anything labled Hershey nowadays is total crap that I spit out the last time I tried what they called “dark chocolate”. My current favorite is “Green and Blacks” (70% and or Expresso).

    I have been composing my NYE menu of new recipes – basically a small lobster tail recooked with a lovely sauce and polenta slices topped with whipped goat cheese as the starch and some califlower and broccoli au gratin, and some ameretti for desert. I bought a sweet Moscato Spumante to finish off the night.

    All of those things are aquired tastes, as are beer and wine.So if you have enough beer or wine, the rest is easy.

    As a Jersey shore summer brat growing up, I was exposed to a lot of raw clams and mussels (not oysters so much). We used the clams for fishbait; the mussels were too snot-like to put on a hook. Kind of killed my taste for any of them. Not a big fan of calimari, either- same reason, fishbait.

    @bird, my cockatoo loved clam chowder that I always make from canned baby type (minced had shell fragments). I keep the chowder in the freezer now for cool weather (at least 3-4 homemade soups) for daily meals.

    I notice that this won’t be enough for a party of14 persons.Also the anti oyster crowd might not realize the dietary zinc contribution, at least the males.Interesting how many readers believe other readers care what a reader likes or dislikes – taking a poll or planning a party for the commentors?
