Rat’s well intentioned grawlix was misunderstood as Maledicta.

Since rat has shown so much cowardice when confronted with the only female rat on the strip I think I belief him. He is a virgin.

Pearls always has a great use of grawlix.

Good catch rf_eq. Pastis should submit this one to Wiktionary to illustrate their entry for grawlix.

And today Rat is working as a spin doctor for a presidential candidate.

While grawlix usually indicates swearing or a swear word, the severity of said swear word is up to the readers own imagination. That being said, I don’t think I understand pig enough to know what he is saying in the last panel! @#*#!

The body goes where the mind is.

There is some truth in that we rarely consciously confront what we mean when we say certain things. Also when I was in the service I noticed that nobody really SWORE…they just repeated the same sounds that everybody else said.

So I figured out and patterned a about thirty seconds’ worth of swearing nobody else had ever heard. I made sergeant in a week.

This strip is so #$*#@$( funny!

The real world is NEVER as filthy as the self righteous and sanctimonious make it out to be. I say, &@^# ’em.

In one of his commentary books, Stephan explained how he had to switch his swear words a bit more vague, since things like “#$@%ing” is too suggestive. And stuff like @$$ is right out.

Rat is the master of ©*#§#*© sarcasm.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Pig swear since “$#%& British Petroleum”.

Pig is asking if anyone wants to hold him lovable teddy bear. I should think that would be obvious.

This highlights a point that I frequently make. People make assumptions based on how they themselves would act. For example: If you assume that someone will (or did) steal, lie, or just take unfair advantage, then it may be because you would steal, lie, or take unfair advantage.

You do that, if it makes you feel better…

Rat called someone a pompous idiot. Pastis used 7 symbols. Is that what this reader is talking about? I wonder what he thinks pompous means. I can only imagine.

Actually, I read that word as “GROUNDHOG”.
