well they are either under the sand or one with it, and petey is the next target. Seriously? You can not evade massed fire, and if one shot kills then you are dead. Now the transport and or Flask could provide a distraction, but that is all that can be hoped for. I really do not know what petey can do,other than point out that there is other danger, that danger that Flask presumably saw.

I don’t know if there is often such a massing of bio-suited Topsiders, but he’d only have to nick one suit to turn the wearer into a huge monster that would attack the adjacent ones, and so forth, like a chain reaction. That would…Sorry, I can’t see to type

If the intent here was to re-emphasize the threat posed by the topsiders, I really think it was overkill (definitely NO pun intended). Seems to me we have blown right past the reality of the threat and have landed squarely in the middle of “resistance is futile” and unfortunately Capt Picard et al are nowhere in sight. Tension has been replaced by despair, and resignation.

Subjective view save:What is drawn is what is felt or alternately what is experienced by someone other than the one that is expected. Generally comics look first person, sometimes go third person view.Because there are point-able discrepancies. They were diving out of the transport. If they could throw sand in the eyes of the TSers, or use sand to make it look like they were being hit by the beams, and/or use something to give the illusion of their deaths, the TS people would be inclined to believe. Holbrook uses (something like) this when he draws a character the size that another character feels that it is, immense if scary, small if not. I am not sure that Jenner has not used such a technique. So, now three choices. Dead, under the transport, under the disturbed and smoking sand. Not that the TSers have had much time to examine the sand. Another point, the turning (to treason according to TS view) of the transports. The transports are on another radio frequency, or can monitor many such bands. So the turned transport may have been talking and sharing with them. It is possible but not sure that many of them are on our side by now. Petey(*) seems to be too busy to do this, but the whole Petey lecture no doubt is recorded. For that matter, though it is a very small chance, the TSers view the world through their goggles. Glass or TV replay? If TV replay, they can be turned to our side, and what they see could just be illusion.

read too many web comics, stay up too late, got flash of Petey from Schlock… as I said, tooo much.

Petey could have used a doggy as a shield if it did not change aero-characteristics. The transport can talk to Petey, and Flask to the transport, and by relay, to Petey as well.

Is that a glint of hope appearing ragged through the haze? Am I a fool to stay? Is faith in Mr Neathery a folly?Holly, Wally, all beloved ones are dead and gone. There isn’t even room for any doubt. And yet… and yet…Like an idiot, with faith I’ll sit and wait. And wait. And five more days, I’ll sit and wait for Monday.

I want to say again that Aaron has acheived HIGH ART with this weeks strips.

When before have so many people been so deeply, emotionally involved with the lives of imaginary characters made of ink on paper? I applaud you, Aaron Neathery.

Tell everyone you know of this strip and particularly this past few weeks. This talent needs a wider audience.

Now that those of us in Central time are settling in to our desks with our first cup of work coffee for the day, I wonder how many (like me) have this comment page open on a side screen to monitor the comments?

And for those feeling real depression from these events, I will quoteThomas Fuller, “It is always darkest just before the day dawneth.” Day ALWAYS comes after night.

    HANG IN EVERYONE!

Are the knuckles white and the fingernails cutting into your palms? This is definitely an E-ticket ride. Enjoy it because no one else out there (with the exception of our own Doc Rat’s Jenner, is turning out this kind of story. Remember, tension burns calories, and you’ll be feeling better about yourself when this arc is over.

We’re at 85 comments, with about 4 hours left. GoComics is looking at this stat and it does make a difference. Lets see if we can break 100 two-days running. As someone mentioned before, this strip is called “Endtown”, and not “Wally, Holly Petey and Flask”. It’s kind of hard to have a story about this universe in which someone doesn’t get hurt. Remember Leo, at the very beginning of “Ballad”? No one really paid attention to when he was blasted, other than Wally himself. Now it’s Wally’s turn, and suddenly the audience is getting emotional. Would it have been any different if Leo was a mouse instead of a pig? Or if we had taken longer to get to know him first?

OK, the topsiders are a more selective shot than I would’ve thought possible. As a consequence, the two favorite characters of mine are dust. However, we can see that Wally did get off one shot. – Did he miss?If not knowing the hopelessness of the run, did he sell out his ideas in the end and needlessly kill a topsider? – Or was he true to the end and put the gun on wide stun knowing that if they got away the stun would wear off and if not once again the stun would wear off and no-one was needlessly killed..

Ok, true confessions time here. While Wally was a good guy in a pinch and had a strong MacGuyver streak in him which I admired, and Linda had started off on the wrong foot but looked to have interesting storyline possibilities, they were soldiers in an ongoing conflict; they took their chances and lost. But for me, the loss I grieve deeply is Holly. She was the personification of what little good there seemed to be left in this desolation, and thereby offered a real sense of hope that there might be still be a future worth surviving for. Flask, Petey and Wally, regardless of their individual personal merits, undertook this mission to strike a blow against an enemy. Holly was there because she would not be parted from Wally. Soldiers come and go and many far too soon, but Holly represented what they were fighting for. Once that’s gone why bother anymore?

I’m convinced that Wally, Holly & Linda are gone. But Flask and Petey are still alive – at least for now – so there might still be time for a plausible miracle.

Aaron’s writing has been impeccable, so I have no doubt that he has something interesting in store for us – some new characters that we can get wrapped up in – new plot twists to bedevil us.

I’m still mourning the loss of Wally & Holly, but I have no doubt that the future of Endtown will continue to hold my attention.
