There’s a country song by Suzy Boguss called “She Said, He Heard.”“She said “I’m mad”,He heard, “I’m leaving”She said “I need your attention”,He heard “I want you to crawl.”She said, “I’m sad”He heard, “It’s all your fault”There is no translationEmotions don’t fit into wordsThere’s so much between what she saidAnd what he heard.
A lot of whining in the comments today… So guys, if something really truly needs to be discussed, what’s the best way to start the conversation, or does all talking “scare” you?
It was not long after I married my Beloved that I told her that she needed girlfriends because she could talk longer than I could listen. It worked well!
Both men and women can have lousy communications skills — mostly involving talking more than listening — and not accommodating each other’s communications styles. To overgeneralize (but not by much), men talk primarily to exchange facts and information, women talk primarily to tell stories and what they mean. To each, the other’s style can be intensely uncomfortable..Above all else, we need to be patient with each other, and understand that what makes us comfortable or not is only personal preference, not a matter of cosmic right or wrong.

When a woman says “we have to talk” I allow her to just get started and turn on my heel and walk away, nothing ticks them off more…love it!
