    What exactly will he do for two bucks? That’s the $2 question.

    Maybe this was Watterson’s true opinion, dispensed in the form of humor, but actually, not everyone has a price. Some have given all, sometimes referred to as the ultimate sacrifice, for their scruples.

    Yet would Calvin make an effort in school for just 2 bucks? No, not even in cash.

    At least it’s “two bucks ‘cold’ cash” or Calvin might be in trouble with the law!

    @Sharuniboy,The “pain, suffering and death” are endured by all the “ostensibly evolving” creatures before man’s original sin. Surely you must realize that! The fossils reveal it. God wouldn’t do it that way!God created a “very good” universe! The quality of life was perfect, and didn’t have to become better, as with evolution. Adam and Eve sinned and brought “pain, suffering and death”, and increasing entropy (the second law of thermodynamics). God came to earth as Jesus Christ, (both God and man), lived a sinless life and qualified to pay the penalty for man’s sin by his vicarious atonement. He rose from the dead to give us hope for eternal life through repentance and forgiveness of sin. Jesus is our Savior. There is no other hope. All other religions are forms of various evolutionary “theories”!

    At current inflation rates, that price is $3 (from this strip’s first printing in 1993).

    What Robert Walpole really said was, “All those men have their price.” He was referring to a specific group of corrupt individuals, not talking about people in general.

    I think Hobbes feels that any amount is too low for some of the deals that people make. What’s the going price of integrity today, taking inflation into account?

    I have scruples. Two of them. A 2-scruple weight from an old apothecary scale set. One scruple = 20 grains = 1.3 grams.

    …rogue53, I have always believed that everybody has their “price” – and true, James, that “price” is not always money. The real telling point, of course, is that the vast majority of people have not had to think about what their price is, and are very fortunate to never have been put into a situation where they actually must name their “price.”

    Reminds me of the fellow who asked a woman if she would have sex with him for a million dollars. After some consideration, she agreed.

    He then asked if she would do it for $20. She got all huffy, and responded, “What sort of person do you think I am?”

    His response, “We already established what sort of person you are. Now we’re negotiating the price.”

    ++++

    Of course, he also established what sort of person he was, but that’s not noted in the joke.

    Not everyone, and not everything, has it’s price. Certainly not in cash.

    People asked me what I would do if I won the lottery. I tell them I’d buy a Congressman. The bidding starts at $250,000 and the lowest bid wins. To collect the congressman would have to personally mow my lawn, wash my dog, shine my shoes, clean my bathroom and wipe my ass.

    I may be wrong since he doesn’t concentrate in class by passing notes.

    @Sharuniboy,I was speaking for the evolutionist about the fossils. My belief is that most of the fossils came from the aftermath of the worldwide flood of Noah’s time. Creation (space, matter, and time) began with Genesis 1:1. There was no pre-history!I agree with Augustine more than with Origen. Augustine believed in the tri-une God. Origen was Arian.Some of your most recent comments sound somewhat orthodox, which is puzzling considering your previous diatribes against God and the “mythological” book (Bible).Overall, your comments are way too long for me in this format.
