when I was a wee boy and I was at me Grandmothers place we were allowed to watch anything we wanted on TV UNLESS M.A.S.H. or Night Court was on then you had to watch those shows so I grew up with M.A.S.H. and night court
Chris and I have been catching a lot of M*A*S*H reruns lately. The moment after I finished drawing this one, I walked into the room where she was watching TV, and there was Radar’s final scene, as he’s driven away from the compound to go home.
Back in the later seasons I wrote a batch of M*A*S*H screenplays and sent them to the producers. Though they didn’t buy any, I knew they read them, because Burt Metcalfe, in his reply, referred to individual scripts and story points. Sadly, this was after Radar had left, and, in order to be consistent, I wrote only for the cast they had at the time. Guess which character I found hardest to write for?
Yep, that’s Radar alright, checking speed.I’m guessing the hardest one to write for would be Maj. Frank Burns, he has to be inept yet in control at the same time. Larry Linville said he based the character on “every jerk I’ve ever met.” Sorry to see him pass when he did.
HAHA! I used to think this same thought whenever I saw those ‘Speed Checked By Radar’ signs, and mused on why some cartoonist hadn’t used it before. Thanks Roberts and Zakour!!

S.M.A.S.H up job Scott. Was the character Hawkeye? Isn’t that when he started to get a little burned out?

And did a pilot for his own series, W*A*L*T*E*R. It wasn’t picked up, but the one episode was broadcast at some time.
