Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for March 10, 2012
Transcript:
Rick: You bought a house? Jeff: More like a stately home. Rick: What? How much did you put down? Is it an adjustable mortgage? What are you closing costs? How about taxes? Jeff: Dad, Dad, Dad. Rick: What, what, what? Jeff: I have people for that now, Dad - it's all good.

Rick, don’t change his room. He’ll be back within a year.

Like Paris Hilton had “people”.

Jeff’s people will take his money away from him.

Jeff has finally impressed his father, and now he fondly wants to relieve his dad of mundane worries. It’s the younger generation telling us everything’s cool and our social security is safe. If Rick believes that, he’s ready for the rest home.Joannie stands in a similar relation to Alex, whose disconnect from reality frustrates her, yet she’s her grandmother’s lifeline to the political future.

Hopefully Jeff will enjoy the ride for a while before he spins out of control.

But nobody loves you and worries about you like your daddy does.

ok Rick, here’s what you do. Move to a little condo in a seniors only neighborhood so The Kid can’t move back in when he crashes and burns later this year.

Drome, Social Security is safe, except for the youngest generation, but we could fix it by raising the w/drawal on those making over $200,000.

the anxieties & hard work of his parents produced Mr. Entitlement. but, hey, the wicked flourish. His values (if any) are so different from theirs. Lucky boy – may not be so lucky in love.

There is another possible outcome, and that is Trudeau will allow Jeff to become even more and more “successful” and insufferable. Jeff could become the epitome for those who acquire wealth through no particular outstanding accomplishment and in spite of themselves, and then complain about how they are “the job creators” and shouldn’t have to pay higher taxes and so on. It rains on the just and the unjust.

You guys are forgetting: Jeff is a total dreamer. He dreams up “his” adventures as the Red Rascal, doesn’t he? Well, he also dreamed up his conversations with Becca, and with the realtor, and now this conversation with his Dad. Jeff is really down in the basement dreaming all this. That’s all he’s good for. Anything else would be dangerous.

Thank you for what is reported to be upcoming in Doonesbury about Texas laws for women. We are Texans and this slipped by us by a too-sneaky legislature and we are horrified. This needs all the light upon it that is possible.

Any old timers remember when Viscount Zonker hit it big? “You got mayonnaise on my Monet!”

GT is telling us that this is how the 1% make their money – all luck and no work.

The Red Rascal sells because people are yearning for heros. If you’re missing a hero in your life, you don’t have to look any further than the Lyndon/Williams case on Judge Judy.
Jonny Rotton is the only person I have ever seen stag on Judy and prevail. Rotton even got Judge Judy to call Williams a Nud Nic. For his courage, Lyndon will always be my hero.

Now? Show me just one frame in Doonesbury, past or present, where Jeff indicated he cared for anyone other than himself. (That includes Mom and Dad also.)

You can run up quite a library fine if you take out a librarian. Can you imagine what his editor would set him back?
Too much early success, and all..! dependent on HER.
If he wants to get to know HER, he’d better pay attention…the learning curve will be steep. When she gets offher end of the teeter-totter that is their relationship, it’ll be a quick and a deadly dumping. Quite thorough.
But of course, if he really is the pure fool, he’ll barely learn anything and survive…even really thrive. The Company might hjre him back in Artefact and Document Production for Media Influence projects…or Analysis, low grade. Grub work. Really stimulate his imagination. He could become quite good…like such a wannabe as Clancy, hero worshipper to the core.
Somewhere there is a Red Rascal.

…so, pay off Dad’s mortgage & let him move into a condo where he’s “got people for that.” Then, wait until the kids “people” rob him blind, & they’re all back together again, just like big time sports figures. He has no clue & the war’s over!Where will he get new material? Oh, I get it, a new war! We need him in Detroit!!
