on /. i saw an experiment run where they put impact sensors, and gravity devices (accelerometers and compression/direction change). FedEx did best all-around, with USPS next, and UPS worst for violent position change and shock/impacts to packages marked FRAGILE, and not much to say about any of them for events occuring to normal, unmarked stuff. Result? you want the best treatment, don’t put stickers on them.
There’s really no point in wasting ink marking packages ‘fragile’ or ‘protect from extremes in temperatures’ if you’re going to hand them over to UPS. They don’t even pay attention to ‘this side up’. I don’t have enough experience with FedEx to know if they’re any different, but certainly UPS treats all packages as if they were indestructible.
My Son and Daughter both worked for a major shipper at a distribution center. The packages were in mounds 20 or more feet high to be sorted. Everything was thrown dropped kicked etc. Not out of anger but lack of time. So when you ship anything package it accordingly.

I knew it. They DO throw the ones marked “FRAGILE” underhand.

As a former UPS employee, I can say they pay well, but you have to be willing to work in prison camp conditions.

I like the arrow pointing up in the “FedUp” logo, like the one between the E and the X in the “FedEx” one. Nice touch.
