Ann: "Oxford! I'm so happy to see you!" Ox: "Me too, Miss Eiffel. And I'm hungry!" Ann: "Well, guess what? I'm going to give you everything you had before - for 5% off!" Ann: "TJ! Get Oxford his order! Quickly!" Ox: "You're nice. And real pretty" TJ: "Don't sign anything, Ox!"

Five percent off? Underhanded and a cheapskate!

Ann’s abysmal at upselling – hopefully she has the same concrete-like touch when it comes to closing this deal.

Sheriff M – you sneak! % is an actual percentage. Lol. And, yup, the yellow background too. :-)
Listen to TJ, Ox. Don’t sign anything. Don’t be fooled by a pretty face – unfortunately many boys do.
SideshowStarlet over 12 years ago
I don’t even think Ox can hear TJ. Wouldn’t it be great if, despite his size, Ox was a minor, so they would need to consult his parents before Ox can sign anything? Owners of WW or not, I can’t see Ox’s parents being very happy.
DaJellyBelly over 12 years ago
It would be fun if Ox’s dad WAS an attorney and after learning about Ms Awful’s scheme for his son. He offers to represent Toni Pro Bono.
slug_queen over 12 years ago
I’m pretty sure Ox is a minor though, as he is Gunthar’s classmate… Bet Ann doesn’t know that though.

This is NOT gonna end well. I believe the term is subornation of perjury.
“Whoever procures another to commit any perjury is guilty of subornation of perjury, and shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.” (USC 18, sect. 1622)
In short, Annie’s treading into criminal activty punishable at the federal level.

Somebody with a faster download speed check out the older strips. At one time wasn’t Ann’s office to the right of the main counter. Yesterday it was to the left.
The mind reels—while the cerebellum merely does a fox trot.

We know that the other day was Ox’s first time in the location. So just by that fact alone he could be disproved that he was even in the store to witness the bite. God I havn’t hated a comic charater this much in a long time. Hopefully this one doesn’t get a restraining order against me. Death to Eiffel! =)

Maybe this will turn out like Of Mice and Men. You know, where the farm hand’s wife tries to seduce Lenny and he accidentally kills her. Hmm. That’s a little dark.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
That actually means nothing. Nerve damage can surface later, as well as other complications, which is why there’s no such thing as a 24 -72 hour limited window in which to file.

“I want you to sign this because I am suing a little child.” Ox will never do it since it is the worst bullying.

Sighhhhhhhhhh, Annie is so HOT when she’s taking ADVANTAGE of the Emotionally Insecure.
No, Dude. Go ahead and SIGN that paper. Just remember that “Ox” is spelled “T.J.”
prasrinivara over 12 years ago
Watch for some carbon-paper (sounds now to be nearly prehistoric, but….) to show up tomorrow—which Anne will be using when Oxford signs his bill.

Doesn’t have to be perjury on his part; if she’s going to do something illegal, she can just get his signature off the credit card receipt (remember he pays with plastic?).
Sisyphos over 12 years ago
Oxford is in the early stages of developing a crush on Miss Eiffel. But his fundamental sense of honor will not be swayed by her blandishments. It is only a matter of time before Annie trips up. One more week? Two?
Cathy38c over 12 years ago
Ox can’t do anything legally. It would get tossed.
abinkow over 12 years ago
It’s absurdly simple…let Ox sign it. Then, just before the trial, point out to Ox that Ms. Eiffel is BULLYING Toni. (Anyone remember Ox’s hot button?)
ekw555 over 12 years ago
I think she’s going to have him sign the legal statement instead of the credit card receipt. No nee to give him some song & dance, just put the wrong paper in front of him.
Rakkav over 12 years ago
Ten years in jail for Ann. Maybe that’s Greg’s long-term intention?

Can I comment on Ann’s skirt almost reaching the bottom of the frame today?
Vilyehm over 12 years ago
Ottodesu, can you find a picture of you as played by Peter Cook?
imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
(Theme from Jaws plays in the background) Ox won’t get angry with Ann until it becomes obvious that she’s bullying Toni & Shannon.
Ottodesu over 12 years ago
I would really like to see her boots. But my point relates to the fact that my comment yesterday about her short skirt was pulled. My comment was pulled, not her skirt. There must be some very sensitive souls here.

djsabc over 12 years ago
You all do realize that this is a comic right?
I love the fact that everyone tries to predict what is going to happen.
Here’s my prediction (I could be wrong). Ox is a good kid that has been raised well by his parents (or else they wouldn’t just hand him a credit card) and knows right from wrong (his defense against the bully). I think that he will realize that he is being used and not sign the paper.
Ottodesu over 12 years ago
It was indeed an innocuous comment, my feelings aren’t hurt because the world of comic based literature has not suffered greatly for its loss.Just stating the obvious that some folk are very sensitive.Hope they stay at home and don’t watch TV or that InterWeb thingy.

Greg, you are genius to bring up the twisted plots to allow such intellectual wonderings. I’m enjoying the banter as much as the strip!

Oliver Stone would strike a gold mine with this crew.
I don’t see this ever reaching a courtroom. The relationships between characters on this strip may get complicated sometimes, but the story arcs rarely seem to go that far. I don’t think we’ll see a judge in this one.
And as far as Ann’s looks go, good enough but I’ll stick with my Vargas girls (check out his art on the movie poster for “The Sin of Nora Moran” from 1933, an early indicator of what was to come). Apparently Vargas’ wife was both his business manager AND model…now there’s a guy who married well!

I’m kind of over the Miss Eiffel story line. I love Luann…but this is a bit old now.

Remember how someone said OX parents could be the corporate people that Ann is hoping that by OX purchasing stuff will make her look good for the corporate so she could get a big bonus. I’m starting to think OX parents are the corporate people and to have a manager from their company to trick their son will get them really furious.

How far will Ann go to get Ox’s signature?? She could add another crime to her list!

Ox is going to have his way with Ann
Jay5794 Premium Member over 12 years ago
Perhaps Ann will seduce Ox and trick/somehow blackmail TJ into marriage , Ox to get him to sign and marry TJ to prevent him from testifying against her. A lot of work for 38 grand minus a third to her lawyer but Ann is evil and winning is everything. Could be another problem for her as they both may be under age. (I wouldn’t bet a whole lot of money on this scenario)
photogirl800mm over 12 years ago
I think either Ox is going to not agree, and Ann will change her ways, or Ox is going to not agree, and turn Ann in! Love the idea that Ox could be a minor, and his dad/mom is an attorney! hmmm…
tubgrape over 12 years ago
If Ox can write, I’ll be surprised. But T.J. might try to keep him from signing and get a big, black eye. So T.J. takes a hit for Toni..then….Oh, boy, Brad, what can you do?
serenasakitty over 12 years ago
Why is there such an insistance that Ann and TJ will get together and maybe even [shudder] marry? I haven’t seen any sign that they even like each other.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
What TJ is doing is keeping an eye on Ann by learning her strategy he can try and spike her plans. Quitting now would merely damage her standing at corporate bonus-wise, and Ann has her eyes on a more lucrative payout.
Yuban333 over 12 years ago
I’m ready for Ann to get her comeuppance. I’m starting to get tired of this story-line being draaaaaaaaggged out.
Yuban333 over 12 years ago
I wonder if the person who told Ox not to sign anything IS is father? After all, I think we’re just assuming here that just because TJ was standing behind Ox, that he was the one who said it. Maybe Ox’s dad came in to pick up his son, he saw/overheard what Ann was saying and doing, and because Ox IS a minor, he was warning his son not to sign anything.

About five years for Annie…three with time off for behavior-favors(!)…and TJ is promoted to Manager, and stays six months to turn the place into a real hangout for kids after school, including a quiet area for study…all’s well that ends well.
Jack Dempsey said essentially the same thing…

Truthfully, I can’t even picture a court scenario. I don’t think Greg ever leaves the familiar background stages. The farthest afield I can recall are the stakeout at Tiffany’s house(watching Dirk), and the Eyez of Zyez conference.
imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
What happened to Ann feeling “SO low and dirty” regarding Ox? Must’ve been a fleeting Ewwww moment, because she’s all sweet and comfy now.
TWAdair over 12 years ago
T.J., HUSH!Let Ox sign the form.1) Ms. Eiffel tricked him into signing a form, lying about what it was he was signing.2) Ms. Eiffel has Ox signing a statement that he was witness to the incident. Once Ox is under oath to tell the truth at the court case, her … perjury?… will become known.
Will that cause a mistrial? Unlikely. Witnesses will be heard, the truth will be determined, and the judge could decide in favor of Ann. However, he could award minimal damages, and then have Ann arrested.
Thus she will have a criminal record, which any future employer can discover with a simple background check.
Problem solved. (Unless Ann becomes vindictive, stalking those she feels wronged her. But we know she isn’t that unstable, right?)
melmarsh9v over 12 years ago
Busy day for me, but I’ll submit one comment. If Ox lays upon Ann, she will be “squished!” I will be back with some witty comments on Sunday…
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
Consistency isn’t exactly paramount here – Ann isn’t asking for permission to speak to him any more, is she? Greg has to tweak the dynamic a tad to make this setup work – she’s the manager, he still gets to insult her with impunity, but she needs a free rein and authority of her position to try to rope in Ox. .If TJ exercises his option to quit and ruin her sales figures, he could use that leverage to make her back away from Ox. It would ruin the fun of this plot wrinkle – so it’s on the back burner.
imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
It’s time for Toni & Shannon to reappear, so that Ox gets the full picture of Ann’s duplicity – that’s probably next week.
